UFC legend Georges St-Pierre’s top 10 most effective tactics

Thursday, May 03, 2018

Georges St-Pierre, also known as GSP, is widely regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. After ruling the welterweight division for many years, he recently returned last November to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight strap in which GSP won in emphatic fashion.

Although many casual fans of the sport often disliked the cautious, technical style that GSP employed in his later fights, we saw flashes of the old GSP in the Bisping fight in which GSP returned to his striking-roots to finish Bisping via KO on the feet.

In this video from YouTube channel, MMAShredded, we see some of GSP’s top 10 most effective tactics that he used in many of his fights throughout his storied career.

As previously stated, though many casual fans of the sport found his style of controlling and dominating fighters on the ground to be boring, many of us still appreciated what he was doing and his PPV numbers confirm this to be the case.

When you really think of it, he was dominating elite-level fighters on the ground and these were often high-level grapplers and wrestlers too like Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck, Jake Shields, and Jon Fitch, among others.

One of GSP’s tactics seen in the video below is his superman punch which he used in many of his fights. Though GSP’s version was a little different and his was more like a ‘superman jab’, if you will.

The jab itself, which is very much underutilized in MMA, is another one of GSP’s most effective tactics that he didn’t really develop until later in his career after training with legendary boxing trainer, Freddie Roach. We saw him make great use of the jab in his second fight with Josh Koscheck in which GSP quite literally jabbed his face off resulting in a nasty injury to Koscheck’s eye.

Check out some other of GSP’s most effective tactics in this video below from MMAShredded.
