Fighting in an unsanctioned street fight is something that should be avoided at all costs – PERIOD! There are just too many things that can go wrong and too much trouble that can come your way from it.

That’s why the vast majority of martial artists know to never fight unless they have no other choice which is only going to be in a self-defense type situation.

One of the most common tactics in a street fight, which is highlighted in this video, is a takedown to ground and pound. Most people out there have no idea how to fight on the ground and even among those who do, fighting off your back is not where you want to be on the street.

Unless you’re a trained grappler, it is very unlikely that you’ll be able to pull off any kind of submission on the ground in a street fight. But, there are still a couple of things you can do to minimize damage on the ground such as controlling your opponent’s posture as well as preventing them from mounting you.

Another common tactic seen in street fights is the shirt/hockey grab followed by punches and Shane goes over a couple of ways to defend against this strategy in the video.
