The DRAMATIC evolution of UFC President Dana White

Monday, April 30, 2018

UFC President, Dana White, has undergone quite the metamorphosis over the years. Although most now know him as the often brash, outspoken president of the world’s biggest mixed martial art promotion, he hasn’t always been that way.

Before Dana and the Fertitta brothers bought the UFC from SEG, Dana White was the manager of fighters Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell and he seemed almost like a different person back then.

During his brief appearances on-camera back then, he appeared mousy and soft-spoken and also looked way different too – like a child almost in a man’s clothing.

It really wasn’t until that historic first season of The Ultimate Fighter, which was on the now-defunct Spike TV at the time, where we got a glimpse of the ‘new Dana’ and this guy didn’t pull any punches.

His ‘Do you want to be a f****** fighter speech?’ to the guys, fired everyone up when morale was at a very low point. In retrospect, that speech may have played a role in saving the sport, as had that first season of The Ultimate Fighter not succeeded and been the huge hit that it was, there’s an argument to be made that the sport could have died out or at least not be in the same position that it is today.

So check out the video below to see how much the outspoken UFC President, Dana White, has changed over the years.

ABOUT DANA WHITE:
Dana Frederick White Jr. (born July 28, 1969) is an American businessman and the current President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the largest mixed martial arts (MMA) organization in the world. Under White’s leadership, the UFC has grown into a globally popular multibillion-dollar enterprise. While working as a manager for Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, White learned that Semaphore Entertainment Group, the parent company of the UFC, was looking for a buyer for the UFC. White contacted childhood friend Lorenzo Fertitta, an executive at Station Casinos and a former commissioner of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Within a month, in January 2001, Lorenzo and his older brother Frank bought the UFC with White installed as its president. In July 2016 the UFC was sold to a consortium of investors led by WME-IMG. White confirmed the sale though did not announce the price. He added that he would be continuing in his role as president. [Source: Wiki]
