Holyfield Tyson

In the second part of our Boxing History Series, Andrew Montanez takes a look at the careers of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson leading up to their first fight.

While Holyfield was on an up-and-down career, Mike Tyson rebounded with eight straight wins (6 by KO) and reclaimed the WBA and WBC belts, putting him back on top of the world, making many boxing fans forget his embarrassing loss to Buster Douglas.

After Holyfield's win against Czyz, the boxing world was shocked as it was announced that Evander Holyfield would battle against Mike Tyson for the WBA Heavyweight title.

This was the fight that the boxing world all asked for and wanted more than anything, and the fight lived up to its words, even though Holyfield was having a tough time building up wins.

For this fight, it was Holyfield who showed in the early rounds that he was the better boxer and was able to land combination after combination on Tyson. In the 6th round, Holyfield was able to land a beautiful left that sent Tyson to his butt. But it wasn't until the 10th round that Holyfield really started to pick apart Tyson, but the belt saved Tyson from getting TKO'd.

Holyfield knew that he had Tyson on the ropes and kept the pace on Tyson, landing huge shots, forcing the ref to stop the fight and give Evander back the heavyweight crown.
