Who would win in a fight: Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris?
Perhaps we can find wisdom in The Way of The Dragon to help us answer this age-old question. No, I’m not referring to any martial arts related philosophies— The Way of The Dragon is the name of the movie where the two squared off in one of the most iconic showdowns in cinematic history.
Without letting the cat out of the bag, I can say that the scene starts rather slapstick, but quickly escalates into something darker and perhaps more appropriate. Whether or not the choreography is reflective of a real fight between the two, the dance of death they entangle in is so entertaining and aesthetically pleasing, it’s difficult not to enjoy.
To help us determine who would win in a real fight between the two, perhaps it’s best to turn to the source himself. Chuck Norris weighed in on his WorldNetDaily column:
“The truth is Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiseled physique and technique. I totally enjoyed sparring and just spending time with him. He was as charismatic and friendly in the ring and at home as he was on film. His confidence and wit were dazzling, and sometimes even debilitating to others. Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size. Would I have beaten Bruce Lee in a real competition, or not? You’ll forgive me for answering with another Bruceism: ‘Showing off is the fool’s idea of glory.’ ”
There you have it— one side of the story in any case. Chuck seems confident and respectful in his response, but he doesn’t quite give us the definitive answer we’re hoping for. Unfortunately, Bruce is no longer here to bestow us with his innovative perspective, so I guess we’ll never know who would win. In fact, this blockbuster scene is probably the closest we’ll ever come to finding out— but after watching it again… and-again-and-again, I’m content with this big-screen showdown remaining where it probably belongs… legend.
