Strength versus skill is one of the most debated issues in all of the martial arts. Can a person with a size and strength disadvantage overcome an adversary using the proper technique?

UFC legend Royce Gracie demonstrated this concept in the early ’90s as he tapped out opponent after opponent using the then-unknown art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while being the smallest man in the tournaments.

So how do other martial arts stack up in this equation?

In the following video from YouTube personality and martial artist ‘The Phil Up’, we are treated to a Wing Chun VS Bodybuilder test to find out how the Kung Fu style stacks up against an opponent with raw strength, in this case, bodybuilder Jujimufu acting as the opponent.

Now before the demonstration, Phil points out that Jujimufu is not just a bodybuilder but also a black belt in Taekwondo, giving him the edge of having both skill and size on his side.

To start off they do a drill with Jujimufu acting as the aggressor with punches while Phil uses various hand trapping and parrying techniques to keep the distance, while also demonstrating the speed advantage he possesses.

“Moral of the story, Wing Chun vs Body Building, get in and get out. That’s my advice.”

After Phil demonstrates his techniques Jujimufu gets a chance to show how he would deal with a Wing Chun stylist, with the size and technique at his disposal giving him a huge advantage in the clinch range.
