Adesanya first MMA athlete to sign with Puma

Undefeated UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has become the first MMA fighter to sign with sportswear company Puma. The announcement came over the social network.

The multi-year deal, which will cover both apparel and footwear, makes Adesanya the new face of Puma’s Oceania division, as well as part of Puma’s global marketing plans.

“We’re ecstatic to be welcoming one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed athletes to the Puma family,” said general manager of Puma Oceania Pancho Gutstein in a statement. “Not only is Israel a fearless and incredibly talented athlete, but his passion for dancing, fashion, anime, and his memorable personality makes him a standout individual to represent the brand.”

The Nigerian-born New Zealander Adesanya won the interim middleweight championship with a unanimous decision over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 on April 13, 2019, in the Fight of the Night; it was a fight of the year contender. He unified the belts by knocking out then champ Robert Whittaker in Round 2 at UFC 243 on October 6, 2019, in a Performance of the Night. And he successfully defended the belt in a unanimous decision over Yoel Romera at UFC 248 on March 7, 2020.

“The Last Stylebender” is scheduled to defend his title vs. Paulo Costa at UFC 253 on September 27, 2020.

And let’s give “The Last Stylebender” the last word:

“I only work with companies that align with my values and goals and PUMA is an awesome fit. I express myself when I fight, when I dance and through my style and I’ve always loved rocking PUMA. I never conform to society’s expectations of who I should be – individualism is key. I love that PUMA is all about individuality, daring to stand out, fearlessness and pushing the limits. Exactly my kind of brand and I’m hyped to see the partnership unfold.”
