Cody Rhodes announced on his personal Twitter account that he has asked for his release from WWE. He posted this on Twitter:

“The past ten years have been quite the trek, but as of earlier today, I have asked for my release from @WWE. I’ll speak further on the matter shortly. Thank you to all the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment fans worldwide. Thank you.”

Damn...too fucking bad.

Though I saw a video that (IIRC) Wrestletalk put out roughly a week ago that WWE is gonna be needing to release more and more people b/c they're planning on bringing up 13 new talents to the main roster in coming weeks.

Maybe Cody is just seeing the writing on the wall, realizing he's not gonna go anywhere, and try to put his future in his own hands for a while.

Where do you guys think he'd end up?

Utter waste of talent in my mind maybe one of the biggest missed opportunities WWE has ever had. Phone Post 3.0

I really hope he doesn't retire. I'd love to see him work the bigger indys like Drew Galloway has done since his release. Cody in PWG, Evolve, or ROH would be excellent. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the G-1 this summer either

He just fucked his wife over. Guarantee now his wife gets shit on because the wwe management has the maturity of a 9 year old and feel they have to even things out. They are so damn unprofessional. Phone Post 3.0

I've said it before, Vince loathes the Runnels family. Dusty was a huge star he didn't created...let's put him in polka dots and make him dance. Also let's name a no talent hack Virgil and have been Million dollar mans errand boy. Let's takes Dustin and make him a drag queen. Now Cody had it all, the most talented on his family, but let's make him Stardust and have him job to Ryder on superstars. I too would be asking for my release to go to Japan or big Indy shows.

His wife is barely a presence in WWE despite being in the company for several years, so how would she get "shit on", exactly?

And considering how they don't use her much as a ring announcer or backstage interviewer and have hired almost half a dozen other hot women to do those jobs despite her being on the payroll already, it's clear they didn't see her as much of a priority to begin with.

Very weird that you seem to really want to see this conspiracy come to fruition to fulfill your confirmation bias.

To be fair, Stardust, a terrible gimmick with a very low ceiling, is Cody's passion project.

Dude has always been an ardent public supporter of the low-rent shtick because he's a huge comic book geek and loves the idea of playing a super-villain.

If WWE had their way, he would have dumped the gimmick after Dream died and become Cody again, but Cody vetoed it because he thought it would be exploiting his dad's death....though in that case I'm not sure what you'd call the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which he endorsed.

TBH I don't see the guy as a potential main event talent or anything, but when he was given a chance to get a push he opted to slum around with a prelim gimmick.

The Dusty Rhodes classic was legit! The nxt kids all loved dusty and the tourney was a legit tribute rather than just another WWE angle. Tournaments like that is how the majority of promotions do tributes. Phone Post 3.0

The only bad thing about the Dusty classic was who they had win. I understand you want to put the champ over, and it did set up Samoa Joe well, but it shoulda been American Alpha or Enzo and Cass winning the Dusty Classic.

Hell, having Enzo, the best fucking talker around, doing promos because of it.... that's a dusty Dusty finish!

Back when he was teaming with Teddy Jr it really looked like the sky was the limit for both guys.
