Chioda has been with them for like 30 years.

I was thinking the same thing.

This is fucked. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures though.

So many people are being released and you have to think the XFL has lot to do with it happening.

Kind of disgraceful...

WWE is in one of the best positions as far as still having the vast majority of their income still coming in from TV deals and the network, having a pretty large cash reserve, and not being leveraged in debt.

But hey... publicly traded companies doing anything to keep shareholder ROE high.

Esp considering a (some?) WWE stockholders are currently suing WWE over being more clear about the relationship between them and the XFL, which Vince said there wasn't any, only for it to become public that WWE was listed as a part-owner.

According to WrestleTalk, the conference call telling everyone this was happening was over in five minutes.

Yep.

Apparently the call was basically:

'We will be making cost cutting measures including executive pay decreases, a hold on moving to a new building, and furloughs and firings'

'We will let people know their status via text'

'Buh bye'

I know alot of people think AEW shouldn't sign too old talent from WWE to avoid looking like a lesser than show but they have alot going that TNA never did. They are already perceived as a legit competitor to WWE and it's been a year. They don't have a B-show feel.

The landscape today is much different than it was. AEW fans are closer akin to ECW and NXT in that they get behind the product and the wrestlers much more easily than WWE. If you can work, you can get over. That's a perfect scenario for some of these WWE recent firings.

AEW needs female talent and larger wrestlers who wrestle like big men. They need to look at their roster like you would any other sports team and fill in their gaps whenever possible.

Apparently all this cost cutting is gonna save WWE $4mm / month.

Which without, they would have still been turning a profit.

If they can pick and choose particulars that can bring a lot to the table, I'm fine with it AS LONG AS they push everyone appropriately.

The thing that TNA did that left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth was sign a shitload of old WWE / WCW talent and then push them to the moon at the expense of elevating almost all of their own talent.

Yep - they've got $500mm cash in the bank.

The really fucked up thing is how many people are gonna end up losing their jobs that we'll never know about - ring crew, people that do the lighting, backstage production, anyone associated with travel, etc?

Disgusting company.

I've known people that have worked there (in the corporate offices) and apparently it was no picnic at any point.

Gotta wonder if guys like Ricochet & Cendric Alexander (i.e. - NXT call ups that Vince has since completely soured on & we know won't change his mind) are also on the list?
