I posted the below on the OG too.  I wanted broad coverage.

I just bought a Howard Combat Kimonos gi off eBay.

pics to follow....

My question is what can I expect?  I own 3 double weaves:

Tatami- Tank- 950 gsm.

Inverted Gear- Armor- 950 gsm

Hyperfly- Judo Fly- 750 gsm

and I’m curious how the HCK measures up.

My understanding is that it’s an absolute monster.

Can anyone confirm or contrast it against the gi’s listed above.

Thanks fellas.

This.  I had a howard that lasted me 10 plus years.

I just had another that found it's last day on Saturday that lasted me 7 or 8.

They would have lasted longer but I through mine in the dryer so they get torn up faster than other peoples.

I am down to my last howard gi. It will be a sad day when that one finally gives way.

Mine is invincible. Got it around 2004 and abused the daylights out of it. Granted, it's been sitting for a few years, and the pants didn't hold up the top did.

I bought my first one in 2003.  Howard Liu called me a few days after it arrived just to make sure I was happy with everything.

I bought a summer weave a few years later 2007 maybe)but gave it to a friend.  I saw a mutual friend of ours wearing it a couple weeks ago.  It's his favorite gi.

My understanding is that Howard retired.

I have a single competition and a double competition. Honestly, as it pertains to how they feel to wear, there is not that much difference between the 2. Load up one barbell with 700 lbs, and another with 1000 lbs. Both are god damn heavy. The double is a bit harder for your opponent to grip. It’s just SO STIFF.

I enjoy wearing them, but I do not enjoy washing and drying them, or walking around town with one in my bag. I expect both to outlast me and can’t imagine rolling with another human that would be able to rip one.

Fantastic, that’s exactly what I was hoping for.  I absolutely love my double weaves.

The Tank is half miserable, half awesome to roll in.

From what I’m hearing, the HCK is gonna be worse (better), which incidentally, I can’t imagine and am sadistically looking forward too.

Does anyone know the gsm count on an HCK double?  I can’t find any info.

Got it. I own the above listed double weaves and I’ve never felt anything like this. I can’t WAIT to roll in this beast.

I love a heavy gi but it’s so brutal in the summers. My coach runs the heat all the time. I’m already the sweaty guy on the mats.

You’re right.

If anything, summer is no-gi time!
