Fantastic, man! I love your videos so much!

I love this one because I already do something similar, but I don't know if it's legal, tbh. From the kimura, I switch arms and hit this move (timestamped 0:44):

I'm glad to have an option from the arm switch that I know is legal.

One of the Machados shows this on a CSW video I have. About once a year I’ll remember this, hit it a ton, and completely forget about it.

"Hey, I know, let's make a video of 1935 catch technique".

"Sweet, I know how we can make it easier to see - we'll both put the same color black gi on!"

Damn it! Sold out.  My all time favorite band since childhood.  I'll have to wait for the reprinting.

I like how you refer to your mid 20s as your childhood!

Great instructional!  The excellent Jeremy Arel pulled this move off in black belt competition just recently as shown in the embedded video.  Only material difference I see is that he took it off of the opponent digging for the underhook rather than from the kimura.  It gets a fast tap, that's for sure.

Can anyone tell me how he pulled off the sumi gaeshi? Did he just use brute strength to load the guy up?

What’s the deal with the blue bar on the other guys belt? Never saw that before. Not to be an asshole but in that particular match the dude doesn’t seem like a black belt so maybe it’s from a different art.

It’s a Royce Gracie thing. And that’s Jake Whitfield, who’s actually a long-time Royce black belt and owner of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Goldsboro (http://graciegoldsboro.com/). He’s a very impressive black belt with both an extensive grappling competition history as well as a winning MMA record. He got caught and Jeremy Arel is just that good. And perhaps Jake had an off day—I’m sure he’d like a rematch.

The Machados call it the “Armpit Americana.”  Roger Machado shows it to Budo Jake on an episode of “This Week in BJJ.”
