Red Stuff - Also, CUO tell us about rolling with Xande and Saulo.

Saulo gets on top and once he gets to half guard he puts his hand in your collar. He won’t let it go until he gets in mount and finishes the cross choke.   He always and I mean always has a deadly hand in the collar.

Xande is more crushing with his chest and hips. He doesn’t head hunt as much as his brother.   However he sucks the life out of you through weight on your belly

Awesome.  As heralded as he is I'd still say Xande is underrated.

CUO - Is Saulo putting his near side or far side hand into the collar? I.e. if his right leg is caught in HG, is he putting his right hand (near side) hand into the collar, or his left hand?

I've had the honor of having sparred with both (and losing to them in their own individually guided special ways!) AND doing drawings of them both that they like ;-)

(Saulo bought a single continuous line drawing off of me of one of his ADCC matches, and Xande posted my drawing of him on his Instagram saying it was one of his favourite portraits of him)

I did however absolutely CRUSH Xande once though...at chess XP

They've always been two of my favourite competitors because their style is so classical and isn't attribute based at all. I also like how the stuff you learn from them at seminars or on DVDs is the stuff you see them do all the time themselves in competition.

Looks like Xande's wrestling got a whole lot better.

Felipe Pena should be grateful Saulo took that much steam out of Buchecha. I also thought that Saulo had won the match against Gordon last ADCC

Imagine trying to stop or control Buchecha while he grambys. Impossible.

What's Buchecha doing with his left arm at the beginning of the first gif? It looks like he's holding his leg to prevent himself having his shoulders pulled back, but that seems kind of dangerous to me. If Xande backpacks, that arm is trapped.

I'd say he's ready for an incoming hook.  And I don't think he's worried about it being trapped when standing.

I had 6 months with Soulo, Xande and master Isumi.  It was such a treat.  Saulo was super intense.  Xande was laid back.  Except as a purple belt I asked him to roll and he turned into a savage and screamed at me for asking a black belt to roll.   Later he was chill again.

The judo master was the nicest human ever.  So polite and so humble.  I really miss learning from him

Actually I really miss training with all of them

The first time I competed in a Gracie Academy tournament in LA as a blue belt, I walked into the locker room and it was empty except for Helio showing Saulo a leglock. I was like "holy shit" lol.

I later saw Saulo destroy a much much larger Conan Silveria at the Arnold Classic in Ohio.
