The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday the list of 32 films that have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 92nd Academy Awards. A maximum of five films from the list will receive the nomination.
The following anime films are submitted for consideration:
Ayumu Watanabe and Studio 4°C's Children of the Sea
Kitaro Kousaka, DLE, and Madhouse's Okko's Inn
Hiroyuki Imaishi and Trigger's Promare
Makoto Shinkai and CoMix Wave Films' Weathering With You
The other films submitted for consideration include:
The Addams Family
The Angry Birds Movie 2
Another Day of Life
Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles
Dilili in Paris
Frozen II
Genndy Tartakovsky's ‘Primal’ – Tales of Savagery
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
I Lost My Body
The Last Fiction
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Marona's Fantastic Tale
Missing Link
Ne Zha
The Secret Life of Pets 2
Spies in Disguise
The Swallows of Kabul
This Magnificent Cake!
The Tower
Toy Story 4
Upin & Ipin: The Lone Gibbon Kris
White Snake
Not all of the films have held at least a seven-day run in a Los Angeles County theater to qualify for consideration yet.
The Academy will reveal the nominations on January 13, 2020. The 92nd annual Academy Awards will be held on February 9, 2020.
The Academy recently changed the eligibility rules for the Animated Feature Film category, removing the requirement that eight eligible animated features have theatrical releases in a single calendar year for the category to be activated. In addition, nominations voting is automatically open to members in the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch, while other members must opt-in to participate in nominations voting.
In 2018, 25 films were submitted. Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu's anime film Mirai was nominated in the Animated Feature Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it did not win the award. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won the award.

paw comments: I imagine Frozen 2 will win.

Okko's Inn is lovely and worth tracking down if you like (mostly) slice of life films.

Genndy Tartakovsky's ‘Primal’ – Tales of Savagery is fantastic and utterly brutal.

I very much want to see Weathering With You as I'm a HUGE Mokoto Shinkai fanboy.

Most of the big studio animated movies are nothing more than McDonalds for a kids brain. Junk.
