Ok, basically spook *SPOILERS*

There are no re-up orders available after issue 193 which leads people to believe it is the last issue.

It had to happen, the story has meandered forever and a day now.

I get the feeling Kirkman has burned himself out a little. Stretched thin across multiple comic titles and tv shows and now he has the 'I can do whatever the hell I want money'. That is going to take a lot of motivation out of the equation.

Got a copy, it is indeed the end. And a long letter at the end from Kirkman to the fans.

I think it was cancelled on the fly. In the new previews they are advertising issue 295.

Or they were trying to trick everyone but not letting on. Maybe Kirkman just hit the end before he intended or was just tired of doing it.

At the end of the issue, Kirkman writes a letter to the fans. In it, he describes solicitin fake issues so no one would know.

It's a pretty cool idea, tbh. I like the abruptness and the surprise.

I'm assuming he could just easily start writing it again if he ever felt the itch? And of course, that issue would probably set sales records!

SPOILERS

The last issue kind of sucked, but the end was going to come sooner than later once Rick was killed.

As far as Kirkman's reasons for doing it this way, I agree and disagree. He had already run out of original ideas a long time ago, so it was probably a good thing to end the series. He could have continued with cool stories if he would have used the walkers as a backdrop instead of "survival as the only story," basically how he wrote before the shows started.

I disagree that the Walking Dead ending without warning is like the story has been from the beginning, all surprises. The story has never been about surprises. Yeah, there are surprises, but the book was built on the knowns, Rick isn't going to play around, Carl, Michonne, and Andrea are badasses, there are bad evil people out there, etc.

To me, ending it this way is ending the book with a whimper, especially with that last issue. There was nothing of importance, nor was there anything to tie back to the series. I would have prefered the first ending he describes in his letter. At least then the story would end logically.

All in all, this has been the only comic that I've collected on a regular basis since 2000. I'm glad I was there for each issue. It kind of sucks that it ended like this.

SPOILERS

not super stoked how it ended, but after reading kirkmans letter i get it.

killing Rick then doing a fucking massive time jump (looks to be 15-20 years into the future) and cutting out all that happened in that time fucks it up for me. so many great stories that could have been written, instead he just stops at 193.

kirkman talks about initially wanting to go to issue 300. he could have easily made it to 300 with the stories told in those 15-20 years, but it sounds like he had a set of ideas and when he ran through those he was done.
