Considering most have received their powers from Kree technology, those bearing the mantle of Captain Marvel tend to play a prominent role in the extraterrestrial empire's ongoing conflict against the Skrulls.
So, with a renewed Kree/Skrull War poised to sweep across the Marvel Universe in the upcoming comic book crossover event Empyre, it's no surprise Carol Danvers will find herself drawn into the war and choosing a side. However, this time things are a little different, as the Avengers will step up and take on the role as the Kree's new Supreme Accuser.

CAPTAIN MARVEL IS THE SUPREME ACCUSER!
In the throes of war, Carol finds herself with a bold new role – and a brand-new weapon – the Universal Weapon, in fact. When a Kree soldier bombs a unified city of the Empire, Emperor Hulkling sends his new Accuser to bring down the swift and necessary hammer of justice. But what at first seems like a relatively simple directive will end up challenging Carol on a personal level she had never imagined.
Ronan the Accuser is the character to most prominently hold the title of Supreme Accuser over the years, bearing the high-ranking military enforcer role within the Kree Empire in comics, animation and movies. With Ronan killed during the recent miniseries Death of the Inhumans, however, the Kree are in need of a new figure to take the position, and Carol's shocking decision to align with the Kree would appear to fill the void.
Written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Cory Smith, Captain Marvel #18 goes on sale this May from Marvel Comics.
