A Bronx street has been approved by the New York City Council to be named after comic book legend Stan Lee.

Voting commenced on Tuesday for a proposal to co-name University Avenue between Brandt Place and West 176th Street after Lee. The New York City Council approved the proposal and the street is set to be co-named “Stan Lee Way.”

University Avenue was an important place for Stan Lee, as he grew up in a home at 1720 University Place and also went to a nearby high school in The Bronx at DeWitt Clinton HS.

Stan Lee helped create some of the most famous comic book characters of all time, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk and a multitude more. His impact spans through comic books, films, television shows and novels. Most recently, Lee became a fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with numerous cameos.

Over the years, Lee has received many similar accolades to the street naming, including having his hands, feet and signature featured on Hollywood Boulevard. October 2 was also dubbed "Stan Lee Day" by the County of Los Angeles and the City of Long Beach.

The proposal for the street's naming still has to be signed by the mayor.
