Eteri Liparteliani from Georgia makes history this week by winning the junior world championships -57kg, the first time a Georgian woman has done so. Georgia is not known for having a strong pressence on the female adult circuit, but now they have a budding superstar in Eteri. Watch how powerful she is from the clinich and with the Georgian front uchimata in this video.

The throw is called the Georgian Lift made famous by Georgian judoka Shota Khabareli.

The Georgian men did well also. Along with Japan and Brazil.  Japanese women did very well.

At a recent IJF event Neil Adams said that the Kodokan has clasffied this throw as a "front uchimata" instead of a front ura-nage as it is sometimes called. It does make sense because you lift their inner thigh with your knee and rotate like an uchimata.

Didn't know it is called front uchimata, thanks.  Devastating throw from old school judo.

Yeah, Neil Adams said the Kodokan corrected him and told him it was an uchimata. With that said the gripping and lifting of the uke can change things. If you grab over the opposite shoulder with a Georgian grip and lift the person directly over you it is called obi tori gaeshi. Watch the Eteri interview again. The first, third, and fourth throws are probably more front uchimata while the second throw is clearly obi tori gaeshi.

Thanks for posting the video.  The throw is one of the most spectacular throws in judo. She is a little powerhouse. Opponents usually can't defend this throw.

That's a nasty fall to take. I am going to study it a little more.
