Highlight of France's rising Superstar Marie-Eve Gahie. Her strength, explosiveness, and body awareness are amazing.

She is currently ranked #2 by the IJF in 70k. The taller women seem to have an advantage in their respective weight categories. I haven't watched enough of her matches to get a feel for her judo other than she is agressive and physical. I did notice her matches against the top players doesn't seem to have a strategy sometimes in the tougher matches the longer they go. Her matches on the IJF website:

Yeah, she had a disappointing showing at the Masters. She just turned 22 though so she's going to be a force for years to come. She took silver at the World Championships in Baku and was a wazari ahead of the Japanese woman who took gold before she got thrown and pinned. She has a phenomenal over the back grip harai and osoto combination. She also really likes tani-otoshi.
The taller players usually like to get that over the back dominant grip and keep like she does. She will be a tough out for anyone. Just needs a little more experience in the tougher matches to pull out the win consistently. Your go to doesn't always work at ever competition. She is still learning how to win at her young age against the best competition.
I like her use of different throws.
Outkaster -I like her use of different throws.
She's also great at securing the pin on the ground. She said in an interview that kata-gatame is her favorite newaza technique and it shows.
The French judokas in general are excellent judo players both the men and women. My favorite French judoka was Lucie Decosse at 63k/70k. So dominant and fearless. 3 Gold world championhips and 1 Gold Olympics. Watch some of her matches and you will see the difference between her and Gahie.

Yeah, Decosse is awesome. She is one of the teachers on Superstar Judo. I believe she is currently head coach, or at the very least mentor, for some of the French women on the National Team.

It's still there. Just not at the top anymore. Different title then this one.
Thanks, just found it and commented.
Her rear throws/attacks were some of the best.
Here is Gahie's match in the finals at this year's world championship against defending champ Arai. Gahie does great the first minute and even scores with a counter. After Arai throws her for wazari she seems to pause for a few seconds out of disappointment which allows Arai to secure tate shiho gatame for the win. Hopefully she will overcome these costly mistakes as she matures and gets more experience.
That is exactly what I am talking about. You didn't see any panic from Arai. She won the title in 2017 also. And Arai is 25 yrs. old and more experience winning gold than Gahie. Time will tell if Gahie develops the patience and skills to be #1.
Congrats to Marie-Eve Gahie for winning Gold at the Ekaterinburg Grand Slam today. She is so explosive in the transition from standing to ground as shown here in her finals match against Portella from Brazil. She is so good at switching her hips and landing on top when her opponent goes for a throw like ura nage. I see her do it all the time.
Yes Gahie is the best in her class. She is ranked #1 in the world -70k. I am not impressed by Portella's judo. She fights in close using her body/gripping counter attacks/ground attacks but it works for her. Will not work against Gagie.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing.
Besides the Japanese women the French women are the best in judo. Their culture like the Japanese hold judo in high esteem. That means equal stand up and ground skills.
There is something like 600 clubs in france alone. Amazing for that size country!
France's latest World Champion.
She put it all together.
