I have a fairly successful small two man firm. Some years are better than others, but all in all things go pretty well financially. Last year I had an OUTSTANDING year (for us anyway), settled $3.1 million in PI cases and had a good criminal year, which is well above average. While I understand and am perfectly aware this was an anomoly I like the idea that it is a possibility. I enjoy being my own boss and having complete control of my destiny and my ship.
An opportunity has arisen wherein I may get appointed to be a circuit judge (sitting judge is retiring) for the remainder of the term and thereafter I would have to run. I am on a short list of persons who would get the appointment if I applied. Salary is good but not great, benefits are really good, workload and schedule are wonderful compared to private practice. And, hell, its always good to be the judge (very powerful and influecial position). But the downside is I would be politically accountable and I could count to the very dollar how much money I would make.
The stars are in allignment for me to quite possibly get this position but time is of the essence for me to act. If I put in for this appointement I have to be prepared to give up my gainful practice and essentially commit to running for the position in two years and also prepare to take the bulk of my career in the judicial direction.
Thoughts, experience and input PLEASE!!!
