I have a Mexican Red Knee.  Pretty cool.  Easy to take care of.  Fairly chill.  Are you planning on buying a sexed adult or a spiderling?  Spiderling are cheaper but if you get a male its a shorter lifespan.

I'm cool with it being a male, I'm don't really care if it lives 12 years or 2. No desire about breeding or anything.

I got 2 tiny crickets that I put in a tiny cup to feed it. They don't make any noise thankfully, I just have some lettuce for them to eat.

The spider is so small it is actually afraid of the small cricket with its legs cut off in the cage with him now. He ate yesterday (what the pet store guy told me) so maybe he's not hungry and that's why.

I say you get one and pay Homeslice to build it a terrarium.

I rearranged the layout and put a water bottle cap in there for him to drink out of. He escaped one time already with the top off, lol.

Fast little fuckers aren't they?  Also escape artists.  If there is a way, they will find it.

The only reason I would own a tarantula is to attract a tarantula hawk to watch it fuck up the spider.

I'm going to try to catch a tarantula hawk this summer. Where do you live, op? I think we should hang out in several months.

And you better do it before he raises the price of bio media.

I can't find the cricket this morning...I guess it either escaped or the spider ate it...I think the latter.

If the spider ate it, I should find the dried up cricket carcass though right?

Maybe it is down inside the little house I made for it.

I took it into work today and I thought it escaped, but it just ended up burrowing deep inside its house.

One of the tiny crickets died, but I put it in there anyway. At first he ignored it, then a few hours later he was standing over it, a few hours later the cricket carcass was gone.

I bought some plastic plants to put in there to add some variety for him.

Bought another enclosure for the crickets. So far he has eaten 3 crickets in 1 week. I bought 6 more today. Will keep feeding him until he molts.

You bought 6 crickets? Lol.  I didn't realize they sold them individually.  I would buy doezens for my water dragons back in the day.

They sell them individually or there is a discount for 6...so I bought 6. He only eats one every 2 or 3 days, so I didn't want to get too many of them because they can cannibalize themselves.

One did escape, but luckily I was able to get it before it hid somewhere in my condo.

I use to breed water dragons.  The breeding make was a bastard.  He would tail whip me Everytime I reached I the enclosure couldn't be handled for shit without always trying to get away.  The female would hang out on your lap like a dog with no worries of her trying to bolt.

This thread got me thinking and i just bought a ticket to a reptile expo in july.......

Cons- it's a fucking spider

As someone who use to keep snakes getting a pet like that won't replace a dog.  That thing doesn't give a flying fuck about you,. All it knows is that you are too big to eat .

This..tarantIla's are cool to look at initially and feed but the novelty wears off quickly..then it's down to you throwing crickets in their tank once a week..they aren't fun pets

Get another dog!exptic pets like tarantulas or alligators sound cool but they aren't good pets..

Was at a Reptile Expo on Long Island today they had many tarantulas, some hugh. They may be easy to keep but not very interesting except for their scary looks. They sit and wait for prey 90% of the time.

So they get delivery a lot?

Well had the sling for one month now and still no molting.

I've fed it crickets every other day for 4 weeks and just the past 4 days it's not eating, so I'm hoping that means it will molt.

Yeah, this is a pretty lame "pet". The 2 rats my wife got are a lot more entertaining.

If it molts I'll post some pictures. As of now, the thing is still the size of a nickle.

When I was in 7th grade, me and a buddy wanted to create our own Eco system of sorts..we had a big 55 gallon tank and I had a tarantula and black emperor scorpion..he had a trapdoor spider and desert scorpion which was small but lethal..we were going to create a forested and small desert environment in the tank and put these bugs into the enclosure along with crickets, a few small lizards, a couple praying mantises and whatever else we could buy.lthen just see what happened..

We never did it though
