OtherGround Forums Attn: Nerds! Where does “Alpha Flight” rank?

Was going through my old comics the other day and came across some Alpha Flight comics. I really dug them as a superhero team and started thinking about where they ranked as a team. Kind of came to the conclusion that they would get starched by any of the biggies (Avengers, XMen etc) but was thinking it might be cool if Marvel rolled them into their cinematic universe.

Anyone else like Alpha Flight?

Nerds? Still find it funny people still use that term.

Alpha Flight didn't stink, but they weren't really memorable in any sense.  They looked fresh and new, but that's about all. I think I bought a few of them, that were interesting but I couldn't tell you what they were like could for the Avengers, Fantastic Four or Guardians of the Galaxy (the original ones, not the movie version).

Where do they rank? Right about where you'd expect an all Canadian team would rank.

Token Canadian team no one cared about with Marvels first token homo on it because...Canada. Even Canadians didn’t buy the comic... Wolverine even has a team of lawyers who expunge any reference to his membership in it online before X Men.

They got their asses handed to them in multiple occasions just by Wolverine himself. That should say enough.

Ok, so what other superhero team would be a good matchup for alpha flight? Been thinking about it and I have to say that AP is a pretty shitty mix of heroes.

I have the first 12 episodes as I ordered my only comic book subscription of it  before it was ever released... I never really cared for it though.

I don’t know where the team stands but I kept thinking the twins were probably doing the incest  along with Sasquatch. Those twins were uncomfortably attached to each other.

I think the X-Men of the 1980’s trashed them too. I think they were looking for Wolverine, to repatriate him into the team.

Wolverine kicked the shit out of all of them by himself in the X-Men Cartoon.

I think it depends on which Sasquatch shows up. Sometimes he was portrayed with near Hulk level strength. Other times he was way weaker. like 1/2 Thing levels. The rest of the team was pretty weak. New Mutants/X-Factor both would be good matchups

Alpha Flight was a good comic series that eventually wandered off into weird spces that people just didn't want to follow.

They had their share of angst, although nothing like the x-men who were the comic equivilent of a teen cutting themselves to feel better, but the characters had potential.

also could take on original xmen in the original run.

gay northstar and his sis could take cyclops. too fast.
sasquatch could crush the beast (and match colossus)
firebird tools angel
shaman gets beat by prof x, unless he gets first strike
jean grey would win against capt canuck or whatever his name is.

or you have sasquatch and the leader vs. jean grey and puck could occupy beast.

new xmen beat them in a close match without phoenix them. with phoenix, no contest.

wolverine vs. capt wolverine, barely
storm vs. shaman- she smokes shaman maybe? he's weird.
cyclops vs. northstar- northstar
colossus vs. sasquatch -draw maybe but i think sas has higher strength
rogue vs. firebird - rogue but barely, firebird could turn into s
nitecrawler -beats puck, has problems with northstars sister.

I bought probably the first year of their series. Kinda fizzled out for me.

Same here.

I have the first few years and it went it weird directions where the writing just didn't seem great.

I wish I had all my old comics.

My Mom move once I was away at school and gave them all away.

It still pains me.

I'll take Captain Canuck!

I have all the original series including the final unreleashed issue.

I live this comic series as a kid.

I've met Richard Comely as well.

This comic should have been amazing but the inductry at the time and Comely himself never got it together.
