williepep - Saw threads on the OG when this show came about.

I had zero interest in watching the show was not even sure what it would be but just expected it to be complete nonsense ( and not in a good way).

Turned on Netflix tonight it seemed like the show just started and somehow I became hooked.

It is a funny show, enjoy watching it especially the dynamic with the Billy Zabka character.

Even without out any of the movie references or tie ins just a funny show.

Making a thread and mentioning in case any other OGers like myself decided not to give the show a chance.

Completely not what I expected when I first heard of the show and saw it mentioned on the OG.

Karate Kid was one of my absolute fav movies as a kid, but never cared about this show before. One episode in now, seems awesome!

Im in on it. Season 2. Poor Tommy. He looks like he died and they dug him up for a cameo, and then really did die.

I rate it a 9/10. I'd give it a perfect score but the Dmitry character is so bad.

Awesome show.  Were my favorite movies as a kid.

Robby pisses me off because he always looks like he has a question he’s getting ready to ask.  He doesn’t.  But he just always has that look...

Thanks for describing that, I was trying to figure out what the fuck that was as well.

Went a bit hard on the high school drama from episode 2 and horrible acting all around. But yeah, I'll keep watching!

Some gold here and there, like when Johnny tells about the old beef from his point of view. Obviously stolen from that YouTube vid that "proves" Daniel is the bad guy and a sociopath.

Binged season 1 yesterday. Season 2 tonight.

Thought it would be stupid but I’m digging it.

show is great. Enjoyed both seasons. It is actually much better than I thought it would be. Johnny carries the show. If you havent watched it you should give it a try. It builds on the nostalgia of the original KK movies with enough modern updates, comedy, and cheese to make it thoroughly entertaining. Looking forward to season 3.

I love how they poke fun at the serious/dramatic moments from the movies without being condescending or disrespectful. It's a perfect blend of not taking anything too seriously while not being too silly and showing love for the source material. It's really hard to find flaws in the execution of this show. Nostalgia done right.

He went to Joey Tribiani’s school of smell the fart acting

I do enjoy that there is a lot of 80s type comedy

jcblass - Is it a comedy or a drama? Is it making fun of the Karate Kid, or a true extension of the story. I could never tell by the previews. It looked like it was totally mocking the movies, but with the same actors. Is it authentic in that way, or just bullshit.

It's all of those  things.

It's a true extension of the story and ropes you with some nostalgia.

It also mocks the original story by flipping the script and making Daniel the rich asshole with the spoiled daughter and Johnny character as a burnt out loser with a heart  of gold, but stil kind of a dick.

It's a drama because you got the issues with both Johnny and Daniel's family life.

But it also definitely a comedy with a lot of hilarious moemnts.  I would say it's probably more comedy than drama.

I watched the first season over the weekend. It’s just what the doctor ordered.

I particularly enjoy the 80’s nostalgia & lack of political correctness.

Man I just finished S2 & can’t wait for 3 now.  Hopefully they can keep it strong until the end.  I really like the direction they’re taking it.  The actual fight scenes suck & some of the characters are annoying, but the good aspects of it are so good I don’t even care.

Miguel is so damn likeable. They really nailed the casting on him. The show would be terrible without him. Robby needs to become interesting. I've heard the guy who plays him talk. I have to blame the writing and editing.

Is it age appropriate for a 12 year old?

I have only seen the original karate kid. Do I need to see the rest to get the most out of the show?

My son and I are looking for a new show. He loved the Karate Kid movie. He is 12. Would this be one for us to watch?

I would say yes.  My 4 year old kinda watches with me while playing transformers though so my parenting advice may be questionable lol.
