OtherGround Forums Did Joe Rogan just checkmate YouTube/Google?

He signed the spotify exclusive deal for $100m, but from September 1 through Dec 31 he will still be on both YouTube and spotify.

If he has counter-narrative medical professionals on to talk about coronavirus, he puts YouTube in the position where they either have to remove him and highlight their censorship while sending massive traffic to the uncensored spotify version, or they have to bend the knee and allow it.  Same goes for any other guests who may talk about issues that YouTube is known to remove or demonitize.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the YouTube speech nazis

Google and Youtube can easily afford to lose Joe Rogan for a few months. He's always been a counter-culture guy. Good riddance to another "Bro science alt right nazi!"

It's not about ad revenue from Joe.  It puts their censorship in the spotlight.  Most people outside of twitter dont follow the internet drama or fakenews stories and have no idea that YouTube censors speech just as they have no idea that the NY Times lies at the rate that it does.

Joe gets around 200 million listeners a month, so the spotlight it will shine on the issue is unprecedented.  All while offering an alternative platform. That's my point.

Since JRE is probably less than .000000000000000000002% of youtube's traffic, they'd laugh at this concept.  They'd have to lose 20-40% of their viewers before they even consider reversing their thought-police efforts....

Content creators for YouTube have been bitching about censorship, adrevenue, demonetization, and continuing reduction in pay. ....libtard politics and greed taking its toll. Fucking cancer.

This could be the beginning of a very fucking big thing. If Rogan shows any signs of success others will follow. Spotify could turn into the next big platform for both podcasts and video content creators.

Has Joe Rogan ever had anything removed from youtube?

That seems like the same argument Howard Stern made when he went to Sirius. Terrestrial Radio was a ok.

People will put up with corporate bullshit. The US has been built on a century of it. There are plenty of things people know are bad but don't care enough to incovenience themselves to change.

YouTube will collapse soon enough. All these big internet platforms usually do. Something better comes along and they leave in droves.

The only other real alternative is Dailymotion which has a lot of crap.

YouTube won't even notice he isn't there, they probably had to google his name to figure out who he is

Spotify is not a video content platform. They would have to put in a lot of work to Match YouTube in this area or possibly acquire a company that already has a decent platform and merge technologies.

No, but he has consistently advocated on behalf of other Youtube personalities who have been banned, shadow-banned, or had their accounts demonitized.

I don't think Youtube is worried about putting their censorship in the spotlight.  They are very open about it.  And their recent aim has been to cater to the likes of ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, etc.   They are trying to move away from the "little guy".   Youtube costs Google something like a billion dollars a year in losses.  They haven't made a dime off it yet.

If that happens they'll be bought out by Google lol.

And Joe's defection to a potential competitor may have started that process.

I know he advocates for Milo, etc but I would be surprised if any of Rogan's content was removed.

Are "medical professionals [talking] about coronavirus" being censored?

Or is it just random dumb asses who don't know what they're talking about?

So I’m going to ask a really stupid questions since I’ve never used Spotify...

Do they have a platform for videos too like YouTube? I thought they only did music and some podcasts?

They aren't a video content platform in the same way youtube is, however they do have video, which will have any podcasts available if they stream video and audio.

JRE will have both, and the full library.

I would imagine we will see a shift in big podcasts that put video on YT go to Spotify if the hassle is less and the money is there.

At the very least if the money is there plenty of people associated with Joe will move, possible Your mom's house and all their podcasts, and the rest of Joes friends that have built their podcasting careers based on him.

Not sure if serious but..... Censorship isn't American and it generally, not a good thing. I understand protecting kids from damaging bullshit... But protecting other adults from alternative viewpoints (probably for monetary reasons)? Nahhh that's whack.

A former adviser to the WHO just had a video removed.   Medical doctors have had videos removed. The head of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design at The Rockefeller University's Center for Clinical and Translational Science had his video removed.

These aren't fringe random dumbasses, but even if they were it's ridiculous to censor them. These were legitimate medical professionals giving their opinion.

The problem is that it's not even about money, its about pushing a political ideology.

And I'm hoping it does... Monopolies are generally never the best thing for the consumer. This is what Google/YouTube have become and they're far too powerful...

The irony is them flexing their content muscle trying to direct what people can and cannot say has created a void for platforms with less limiting requirements.

Spotify came outta nowhere and now may build up enough resources to be both an audio resource and a video resource.

Well played, Spotify, well played.
