This reminds me of the time about 25 years ago I was on one of those phone dating sites. I spoke with a girl on the phone for a couple weeks, she seemed kinda sketch, but she was looking for no strings but wanted to be comfortable with someone before meeting them, etc.

Anyway, long story short we are on the topic of violence for some reason, and she tells me about this older guy (i am guessing that he was in his 40s at the time) that got murdered in her small town the month prior. She was drinking a bit and casually mentions that she knows the guys that did it, and proceeds to tell me the exact name of the guys that did it (she was acquaintances of them) and they did it over a squabble over a debt or something. She tells me how they did it too, etc. In fact, she saw them later that night and they discussed what had happened and what should they do, etc.
She then realizes she may have said to much and changes the topic. Two weeks later I hear about the murder investigation on the radio and how it is unsolved and a complete mystery as the guy was well-loved family man, etc.

I call her back and casually say hey I heard about that that murder on the radio and make small talk about it. I then say "what was that first guy's name again, the one with the weird name"? She then gets very very very quiet. And says "what murder are you talking about?" I then say, you know, the one we talked before where you know the guys who did it and is on the radio". She says "Sorry, I have no idea about the murder or murderers - I just heard about it a couple days ago from you". She then says she has to go to the store and hangs up on me and never speaks to me again.

I then call Crime-stoppers from a payphone and ask them if this case is one that they are looking for info.on They say yes. I give them her first and last name, and describe what she told me and give her phone number. Of course, I can't remember the three guys names she told me (she told me first and last names) at all except one of the guys first names.

I call her back the next week from a Payphone and her number has been disconnected. I have no idea what happened with the case. But I was on that dating line about 3 months later and recognized her voice, and disguised mine so she would recognize it, and we chatted. She eventually recognizes my voice, swears at me and tells me that she knew it was me who called the cops and they go nothing from her or some shit and I never hear from her again.

Wiggy - Was this on public land or just the back 40 of someone's property that everyone would hike / walk through, anyway?

I’ll post the exact location of the hole on a map once my friend shows me where it is , we’re going on a hike there this week sometime.

I agree with Willin.  If I’m in the middle of nowhere and I see a guy repeatedly returning digging a hole I sure as shit would have called the cops.  He wasn’t up to any good, and I likely in the back of my head assume he was up to a nefarious plot to bury a body.

The problem is actually doing something with the information... unless they recognize the guys face from the trail cam (in which case they could only follow up with him on why he was potentially digging a hole) they have almost nothing to go off of.

Yes, it is suspicious but that would be a weird call to deal with. More then likely the deputy would call the reporting party and ask if any crime had been committed and when they said no the deputy would just advise them to call back if anything illegal occurred.

Can't really have officers sit in a hole in the middle of winter waiting to question some guy because a couple potheads set up a trail cam.

It was a tiny town in upstate New York, correct? Surely he would likely have been recognized.

Like I said a questioning by police may have made him too paranoid to follow through with his mendacious plot.

He was digging a hole the size of a grave plot in the middle of winter. Repeatedly revisiting. A 25 year old male. Alone. Caught on camera. What in the world?!

Dude, I live in a small town in Minnesota and I don't even recognize all the people that live on my cul de sac... you think an officer or deputy would just randomly recognize some 20 year old dude?

I know what you're saying and I am along the same line of "report it and hope something good can come of it" but realistically it's just a dead end call...

They keep letting the trail cam run, and it picks the guy up a few more times digging, and then aburptly one day he never shows up again after the hole is pretty deep now.  They could easily make out the guys face in the videos, but they have no idea who it is or what he was doing.

A few months go by and they kind of forget about the whole thing.  Then one day my freinds friend is watching the news.  The news segment was about this baby named Maddox and her kidnapping and subsequent murder.  Details of the case can be found here:

https://www.syracuse.com/crime/2017/02/a_year_ago_baby_maddox_went_missing_a_look_back_at_the_tragic_case.html

They are looking for the father, a guy named Ryan Lawrence as he is suspected of killing his baby, and well wouldn't you know it that as soon as they flash the guys picture on the news, its the fucking guy that was digging the hole in the woods!

My friend and his buddy are super creeped out as the hole was being dug not too long before the baby was killed.  So they call the cops figuring it might be important.  Well the cops agree and drive to my frinds house, and pick him up to bring them back to show them the site.  Being cops they didnt show their hands during the walk in the woods, but later they did confirm 100% to my friend that it was the baby murderer digging the hole in the woods in a remote location, although he did not bury her there.

Hard to say 100% what the hole was for, but read the article and make your own conclusions.  Only one person knows and hes in prison for murder and not talking.

WTF - why wouldn't your friends alert the authorities to at least check WAY IN ADVANCE? Are they retarded?

Hmmm, we have confirmed that someone is up to something extremely suspicious and has been returning for several weeks to dig a hole in the middle of nowhere with the great possibility it's for nefarious purposes. Perhaps we should ask the cops to at least take a look or hear us out?

Nahhhhhhhh, let's ignore it.

Call the cops because of a random hole in the woods? These guys are pot smokers they aren’t quick to call the 5-0 lol.  Like they are going to assume someone is planning a murder , which we don’t know he even was at that point.

Their subconscience clearly suspected something was very wrong hence why they set up trail cams. They're just pothead morons.

Also their trail cam footage could have persuaded a jury that the murderer had a long standing intent to kill and hide the body. Have you considered that?

Let's see a picture of his actual face in the trail cam footage since you seem to have it.

Every time someone makes a cool thread there is one asshole that has to try and ruin it. LOL.  Bro just settle down with your paranoid ass, obviously the cops had the info way before the trial, and they guy was caught red handed anyway it wasnt needed.  The hole wasnt  8' x 3' like the shape of a body it was a lot smaller, who the fuck is going to assume it was a potential grave for a baby jesus fucking christ man relax.

I mean... what do you think he was doing? Digging holes in the woods for kicks?

Maybe he is a pedophile who was planning on creating an underground cellar in which he could abduct and rape the baby.

What do you think he was digging in the middle of the woods for then shortly thereafter murdered his own daughter?

How am I ruining your thread? By pointing out blatantly obvious possibilities that your daft friends chose to ignore?

Sorry, but if you went to the cops and said you have trail cam footage of a man digging a hole, they are going to tell you to get the fuck out and to stop wasting their time.  If the guy wasn't a suspect and the cam didn't show him dragging a body, no crime has been committed.  Even if they knew who it was(they wouldn't), do you think they would show up at the guys' doorstep and interrogate him for digging a hole?

It's not that he was digging a hole. It was that he was digging a hole IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE more than a mile from the nearest house.

He was revisiting the spot repeatedly.

The least the cops could have done was try to question him about it.

Willin

rhere is another thread on here where a target employee called the cops because he thought he saw child porn on a guys phone camera when he brought it in.

The fbi went to his place and he was branded a pedo.

Turns out he was innocent but he was still thought of as a child molester and the guy had a heart attack and died.

Target is now being sued because of the employee.

Not saying the target guy was wrong or these guys were right (or vice versa )

but I can see people just not wanting to get it wrong if making an accusation without any real evidence of wrongdoing

Do us a favor and procure some footage. Good thread. In winter when the ground is frozen isn’t it really hard to dig anything?

I will, it wasn’t the middle of winter it was either early spring or late fall.  You can’t dig here mid winter with the frost line.

I agree with Willin.  If I’m in the middle of nowhere and I see a guy repeatedly returning digging a hole I sure as shit would have called the cops.  He wasn’t up to any good, and I likely in the back of my head assume he was up to a nefarious plot to bury a body.

I don’t care what the cops do with the information. But if I report it and the cops are like “yeah, I recognize him, he’s had two domestics we were called out to this month...” maybe they’ll take another look and actually get in front of a crime.

If they go “so the fuck what?” That’s fine too.

I’m going to feel better about at least reporting it vs just sitting on the pics waiting to see he murdered his family and they’re now missing and then going “ I fucking knew that dude was up to something!”

You don’t need to be a vigilante or wait for a crime to happen, but giving the cops info on something that just seems fucking suspicious is Better than nothing.

I agree with Willin.  If I’m in the middle of nowhere and I see a guy repeatedly returning digging a hole I sure as shit would have called the cops.  He wasn’t up to any good, and I likely in the back of my head assume he was up to a nefarious plot to bury a body.

If the cops don’t do anything, that’s on them, but I’m going to say something if I think he’s up to some shit.

This man gets it. If a single 25 year old man is progressively digging a perfectly grave sized hole in the middle of the woods my alarm bells would be going off.

Clatty

I’m with you... except there is a thread on this board about the kid from target who did just that.

Reported what he thought was child porn on a guys phone

turns out it wasn’t but the fbi investigation caused the suspect to have a heart attack and now the kid who reported it is getting the business and target is being sued.

So you can’t win either way

Literally the first thing I'd think to myself if I saw someone digging a hole in the woods in the middle of nowhere would be "I wonder if someone is planning on hiding a dead body here."

What the fuck else do you dig a hole in the middle of the woods for?

How do you think hidden porn stashes are born?

Brief Update:

I asked my friend how the cops confirmed it was the killer in the video.  My buddy said after they sent the police the screenshots, they then called the killers wife and showed her the screenshots with his distinctive shirt, and she then confirmed it was the killer.  Also I found out the killers house was only a few blocks from where the hole was dug.  My buddy also said he was there recetly the cops left the hole wide open we can still get pics etc wihich I will proabably get tomorrow.
