A 75-year-old US man has been killed by his cassowary, which is considered the world's most dangerous bird with 10cm dagger-like claws on each foot.

The Alachua County Fire Rescue Department told the Gainesville Sun that a cassowary killed the man on Friday on the property near Gainesville, likely using its long claws. The victim was apparently breeding the birds, state wildlife officials said.

"My understanding is that the gentleman was in the vicinity of the bird and at some point fell. When he fell, he was attacked," Deputy Chief Jeff Taylor told the newspaper.

He said first responders got a call on Friday morning and rushed the man to a hospital for trauma care but he died.

The county sheriff's office identified the victim as Marvin Hajos, 75.

I remember reading that these are the only birds that can kill a human and thinking it was some over the top bullshit for an article......

Fuck that. It's like something from a Dungeons & Dragons bestiary. How many hit points damage can it do with those dagger feet?

If this bird tried to size you up, how many could take it in a fight?

They get up to six feet tall, can run 30 mph and have a five-foot vertical jump.

Their dagger claws are basically five-inch knives.

Take it in a fight without a weapon? Fuck no.

They are not tigers.

Just reading wiki a male is 130 pounds.

One hand could easily wrap around the neck and go to town yanking on it. Also the average weight of a human male could easily bring it to the ground. Just imagine a 200 pound male grabbing that neck and just yanking it all over the place. It's center of balance would not be great with someone around 70 pounds greater trying to force him to the ground while yanking on his head.

Also their claws are not five inch knives. Every video I have watched they seem normal. Hell when it comes to birds owls and eagles seem worse because they are also long and super sharp.

Hmmm possible, but I think grabbing their neck puts you at risk for getting nut/ gut kicked. Check out the door pic , they do a double front kick, pretty risky tactic imo.

OK, let's do this, cassowary vs game pit. Who takes it?
