Slow day at the office... saw a report that "Singapore Leads the World in Urban Mobility". So, I wanted to check out the streets and sidewalks, public transit, etc. Holy shit is that place clean! I even Googled ghettos in Singapore and the places that were mentioned as ghettos were still cleaner than most US cities.

I think I may have to add Singapore to my bucketlist!

They have very strict laws regarding littering. It’s a $300 fine + community service where you repeat over and over “I am a litterer!” as you clean the streets.

Spitting on the road = $1,000 fine.

singing an obscene song in public could land you 3 months in jail.

Using another persons WiFi without permission = up to 3 years in jail and/or $10,000 fine

Feeding pigeons = $500

Not flushing toilet = $150

Smoking a cigarette = $750

Singapore is on another level.  Been there 5x, amazing food, so clean and beyond safe.  You could pass out in the street with hundred dollar bills hanging out at 3 in the morning and still be safe.

We should have the not flushing fine here too. I swear some people want the next guy to see their handiwork.

I spent a couple week in Singapore and took the train several times. It made me pissed at how bad transportation is in the U.S. Only reason I didn't take the train more is because the blue cabs were so cheap & easy.

I think every member of congress should take the train in Singapore; clean, cheap, no criminal element, no homeless.

It's absolutely pathetic what we put up with here.

Sounds like they’re suffering from the lack of vibrance that comes with diversity.

But is Singapore diverse? Checkmate, America wins!

Actually, they have a huge expat community from all over the world

It’s funny that you think congress can legislate basic human decency. Our culture promotes the exact opposite so this is what we get.

Haven't been there since early 90s. Great city, very diverse but most speak English and love Americans unlike many of the diverse citizens in America.

I was there with Mrs. Fish last summer. It was fucking awesome. I have been to a lot of countries and so far it's my favorite. My wife loved the fact that in 2 weeks we didn't see a single bummie in a city of millions. And she didn't care how they handled it. Also, the most crime free place I've ever been.

Isn’t prostitution legal there?  How is all this illegal while that isn’t?

Singapore is sterile and dull, imo. I'm surprised at the love it's getting. Like there is some interesting stuff to see/do, but nothing about it made me want to go back.

Honestly it kinda creeped me out, like the whole place was collectively holding its breathe.

Singapore sounds a little fascisty with their over the top punishments for minor offenses. Like a no broken window policy on steriods.

Pooping on the street is probably a death sentence.
