What about the 516?

sig claims is better, they brought in H&K

engineers and improved upon it.

What y’all think

Discontinued right?I think the 716 is what sig has left

The 516 is officially discontinued, but for some reason batches of the 516 upper keep showing up.AIM Surplus has been going in and out of stock the last couple months.

I might get this upper but recent ar pistol news getting me a little cold feet

Going to burn a screen tomorrow, and I'll start testing out the new screenprint setup I got back in June. If all goes well I should have some shirts available in a week or two.

Remember to get in your backorders for HK416 parts at Brownells, a lot of parts are coming in the next 2-3 weeks.

Nice!  Also check out numrich, they have a few 416/mr556 og parts.  Is a mr556 gas block about the same as 416?  Numrich has them for $150...

Paging Sogsteel

Jason at Hurricane Butterfly mentioned something that was interesting -- he said that the piston rod is the same for MR556, MR762, HK416, HK417. Are there any other parts that are identical to the other models? I don't think that will help find a piston rod (haha), but per Y Not's question, it would be great to know what other parts they share.

Yes they are the same. The only different rod is the HK416C which is shorter.

They also share trigger guard, gas piston, selectors, and pistol grip  Thats all I can think of besides some small stuff like springs and pins.

Cool, thanks for the info.  Just ordered a gas block and a couple other small parts from numrich.  Next step is anodizing/engraving receivers and keep rounding up parts.  What is the anodize color, or will they know if i tell them its for a hk416?

Looks great! You can only Type III anodize in Black or Clear. The clear is what makes the FDE color. The metallurgy mixed with the clear mix conditions is what makes the shade, which is why you see so much variation in color even in high end rifles like the SCAR. Even Geissele has a notice on their website saying they cant guarantee color matching

https://geissele.com/desert-dirt-color-ddc

Just tell the anodizing place you want type III tanodize and they will know. Especially if you talk to Ed at SNF.

Want to do more quality control testing tomorrow -- ordered a lighter bleed ink option, and going to use a pressure washer (instead of a hose nozzle) to wash out the emulsion from the screen this time. I know this has nothing to do with the build, but I want to make sure the quality matches HK.

Just got a notice from Brownells that they are going to ship the Barrel Nut and Castle Nut -- which means the Gas Piston and Piston Rod should be next week or the week after that.

If you don't want to wait or backorder, sogsteel just shared this https://www.gunbroker.com/item/881119826

If I hadn't bought the 516 upper, I would be buying up more gas pistons via backorder right about now.
