Holy SHIET at the price for the Vortex Razer haha daaaaaaaaaaaamn

I’d go with the PST GEN 2 1-6. Big upgrade over the strike eagle and not near as expensive as the razor.

Came here to stay this. I posted a funny or entertaining but good review and look at this scope.

I have heard it described by some (including Vortex rep possibly?) as 80% of the razor at 50% of the price.

I have been searching for one and also trying to decide if to go MOA and MRAD on this scope.

EOTECH EXPS3-0 or save up for Trijicon ACOG?

Save up for the trijicon!

Not for most uses.

While they quote a life of 12 years, this is the half-life of the tritium inside. Plenty of reports of them getting substantially more dim within 6 years or so.

Moreover, why would you want to be locked into 4x? You can shoot an unmagnified dot out to 300+ if you have any skill. Shoot fast inside 50 yards with a permanent 4x? Not so much.

As others have said, if you really want mag, Vortex is where it's at. Or at least Trijicon VCOG.

While I can't speak for the particulars of the Viper, mils are prefered over MOA. Pretty much any decent instructor that will teach you to take it out to distance is going to work in mils.

Alright I love what I'm hearing from you guys about Vortex, so I'm going to try the Viper model. Finding one at a discount for Black Friday would be pretty damn sweet!

Can't argue this.

The fellow in that review suggested finding a used one or refurbished one since the warranty is still intact. Mentioned a place A&A Optics that sells refurbished ones.

That said I am kind of odd on this subject and usually want a new one.

ACOG several of you have mentioned.

I have a 3x with 762 reticle ..it is the model known for having longer or better eye relief.

I bought it used. Glass is super clear. I had decided to sell it or trade it but then when I take it out to hilly mountainous area mixed with open fields I can see the value in it

Now leaning towards keeping it since they have a reputation for being very rugged.

Keep it around place it on a rifle ? Or dump it ? I thought about keeping it on a SCAR 17.

If you don't have a reason to sell it then keep it.

Thanks for weighing in. Thought about pairing it with an offset red dot.

Or just putting it on an "extra" rifle. The glass is very clear, bright.

It is a TA33 light, small 8-10 oz.

Put it on an AR 22 to get used to it.

One thing to make sure you are aware of and ok with.

( I know sounds like backpacking now but want your eyes open especially if ordering on the net without touching one).

Vortex Razor and Viper Gen II while great LPVO also are pretty damn heavy. For some people that is fine while others do not like it.

^^^

I have some time before I'm done with this build, but I'm most likely going with the EOTECH first to support my local FFL's small business. Will definitely keep an eye on the Vortex models during Black Friday, but I assume I'll be competing with just about every gun owner who doesn't have one yet.

Paging Sogsteel...got a few questions.  Are the forward assist, dust cover pin/spring, mag release and bolt catch hk only or are they “mil-spec” parts?  I ordered a geissele ddc charging handle, buffer tube and a hk ambi safety axle today.  Know of any in stock safety levers, preferably mr556?  Also hunting for a ral8000 grip...

This week I visited a certain Special Operations team and what I can only describe as a vault room with probably 100s of personalized 416s and 417s (and some MP5s too) .

Sucks to be old :)

Picking up the EOTECH on Tuesday. Will probably keep that on the 516, and wait to get the Vortex Viper PST Gen II for the HK. Currently trying to score a piston rod and used gas piston on Gunbroker.

Sorry for the late reply I just saw this

1. I'm pretty sure the forward assist is the same but i used all HK parts on mine so I'm not 100%.

2. I don't think the dust cover stuff is the same. The spring and clip might work. But the rod should be different and HK has a small roll pin that goes through the dust cover to secure it. You should see a little hole for it.

3. I can keep my eyes peeled for some stock levers. I got a couple from Midwest gun works a while back. I thought I had a couple spares I would offer but haven't been able to find them.

I did a quick Google search, and I like how some guy posted that you don't take a Ferrari to autozone...

That said, wouldn't the aftermarket upgraded enhanced mil-spec parts, be superior to the standard and somewhat outdated parts for the MR556?
