Not a big bread eater but I think French baguettes have to be the best there is.

Slice them up and slap some Irish butter on them and you are set... perfect bread for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I could eat one every day if I didn't care about calories.

I've grown obsessed with the damn things. Whenever its time for a cheat meal lately, I buy them.

Thats all, they are the GOAT, good talk.

I agree, 100%

Often though they are underbaked and lasck the appropriate structure in the crust and the ends are too round and not pointed enough.

I properlay made baguette is the GOAT.

You can get part baked baguettes that you stick in the oven for a few minutes and they are just heavenly. Like you say, you can just slap a bit of butter on there and you are good to go

Well yeah, properly made baguettes from a great bakery are key to their GOAT status.

You won't get a good one from a grocery store but go to an actual highly rated French bakery and you should be able to get a great baguette that is mind blowing bread IMO. It will be real hard and crispy on the outside and have pointy tips.

I ate three hardboiled eggs for lunch today just dreaming of a fresh cracked black pepper and rosemary baguette the whole time.

The "barra de pan" from Spain spanks the French baguette. No contest.

My family always cuts them like that and puts the open side down on a cookie sheet with a lot of melted butter and garlic . 350 for 12 minutes. Usually served with Gumbo or Brunswick stew . Or it's like crack if you eat it by itself .

I've never cut them open face like that pic but I bet its good open face like you describe with butter and garlic.

I have browned slices in duck fat in a cast iron skillet and they were awesome too... even if not quite as awesome as in their natural state.

Now gumbo and baguettes... now you are talking one of my favorite meals on the planet. Dark rich gumbo with a fresh baguette.... perfection.

Went to France when I was 14. Was all excited for this fancy french bread. What a disappointment.
