Prime Minister Justin Trudeau violated the ethics code by trying to influence then justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to overrule a decision to not grant a deferred prosecution agreement to Quebec-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin, Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion has found.

"The evidence showed there were many ways in which Mr. Trudeau, either directly or through the actions of those under his direction, sought to influence the Attorney General," Dion wrote,in his report released Wednesday.

"The Prime Minister, directly and through his senior officials, used various means to exert influence over Ms. Wilson?Raybould. The authority of the Prime Minister and his office was used to circumvent, undermine and ultimately attempt to discredit the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions as well as the authority of Ms. Wilson?Raybould as the Crown's chief law officer," Dion said.

Dion found Trudeau contravened Section 9 of the Conflict of Interest Act through a series of "flagrant attempts to influence" Wilson?Raybould to reach an agreement with SNC-Lavalin to avoid criminal prosecution. That section of the code prohibits any official responsible for high level decision-making in government from seeking to influence the decision of another person to "improperly further another person's private interests."

The Libs should dump Trudeau on his ass. He's officially damaged goods. There's no disputing the Ethics Commissioner's findings. He's independent and it's refreshing to see someone actually tell it like it is.

He makes apologies for everything else but he couldn't bring himself to apologize when he really crossed the line? Get outta here!

The thing is, he didn't technically do anything illegal. It is unethical, but not breaking the law. I'd be satisified with Trudeau leaving politics, never to be heard from again.

Yep.  I live in western Canada and there is lots of anti-Justin around here.  People are going to be shocked when he gets re-elected.

If he wins watch western separatism get real legs. Angus Reid did a poll in Feb that found half of Albertans already support secession so it won't take much.

And then that'll get Quebec talking about it again. We could see the country fragment over the next few years.

Peter McKay was on CBC saying that the RCMP would most likely be reviewing the findings to see if charges will be laid. Not the most impartial source, I know, but I think he was referring to judges being contacted by JT or his minions on his behalf.

Believe it when it happens. You're right, MacKay isn't exactly impartial. His role is to make this sound as bad -- and potentially even worse -- as he possibly can.

Trudeau is going to win a minority government. He's going to get Ontaria and maybe BC. He's not going to get the prairie provinces or Quebec.
