You know, De Niro was 53 when he did that scene. He wasn't really an old man. Middle aged, sure. But not a senior citizen.

You think he's gonna live to 106+? 53 is well past middle aged.

TzTinkle - The first time I saw the person in the bear suit in The Shining.

It's so random and out of place. It shouldn't be horrific, but it is. Gotta credit Kubrick for his presentation of it.

fucking christ. i cannot even watch this. just remembering it, is giving me douche chills

anyone interested, i think the book explains what the scene is about and means.

Nickelback is my jam.. AMA -

Why are people naming horror movies? That's the whole point of a horror movie, to try and terrify you.

How is it unexpected to see messed up scenes in a horror movie you numpties.

YEAH!!!  You tell them  Jobe

Apparently there is an insinuation that Jack may have been sexually abusing his son. The person in the costume also has their ass exposed. Apparently there's a few bears scattered at interesting times in the movie linking them with his son

I dont approve of the animal choice.

If it makes you feel any better, I believe it was a dog costume not a bear, in the book.

The Pete - Large Marge for sure

This definitely! Was going to say Zelda in Pet Sematary but considering it’s a horror movie it’s not really “unexpected “. But Large Marge really was unexpectedly terrifying as a kid. Shit, had forgotten how much it freaked me out.

I realize this is a horror film but I found it to be next-level disturbing.

There is an excellent movie about French Canadian settlers called Black Robe.  This movie includes a brutal torture scene in which a child is killed.  Haunting.

There's a lot of disturbing stuff in Jacob's Ladder, but this scene stayed with me. Both unsettling and, uh, arousing.

Tim Robbins' character sees his girlfriend dancing at a party, getting it on with some kind of... creature.

Penetration is heavily implied, and then - for a fraction of a second - impalation.

The protruding horn is only screen for a flash, but I still remember it all these years later.

Yeah, that one for me, too.

^ Holy shit, Toiletclogger. Fuck you for posting that and making me watch it. It was so well done and unsettling. I haven't felt that bad about a horror movie scene in a while.

Newer movie with Natalie Portman called annihilation. There’s a scene where this devil/alien thing walks through the room screaming like a human being killed.

The context of the scene is that an expedition is investigating a zone being affected by an alien phenomenon called the Shimmer.

The Shimmer is causing plants and animals to mutate. A bear that has mutated attacks the group and drags away one of its members.

Another member of the group goes crazy with paranoia and ties up her teammates in an abandoned village.

The bear returns but now it has a voice: It can repeat the screams of the woman it dragged away and killed.
