Where would you recommend some donktastic 1/2-1/3 action in on the south strip on the weekend. I doubt I'll get a full night's sleep until Sundayish.

I woud say the Bellagio.  You will get some good action plus it's a nice room.

I am going to avoid the Bell, Aria, Venetian, Wynn at first. I am going to be hopefully playing most days. I don't want to go broke or donate to a game I shouldnt be in.

I am more than ok with hustling drunks and avoiding the backpack crowd.

I played at Mandalay Bay and ended up on a game with a bunch of Canadians visiting for a conference.

Yeah I checked the convention authority website. It lists the dates, number of attendees, and location.

It helps with my bumhunting er I mean game selection.

From looking around the two top places I want to go that I've never been to is Wynn and Aria. I'm staying at Treasure Island, so luckily Wynn is right across the street.

LOL @ the backpack kids

We can hit up Aria and Wynn on Monday. I wouldnt recommend they be your landing spot though. You want games that no self-respecting serious poker player would go to like Bally's, Harrah's, Flamingo, Planet Hollywood.

If you want your best chance at a big win, that's where you go.

Otherwise, you should reassess WHY you're primarily motivated to playing poker.

I had a similar experience when I asked myself why I played most of my real online money on pokerstars. I played strictly microstakes because I never got good enough to move up (there). Or rather disciplined enough to do so. Instead of focusing on my best games on the worst sites (not arguably the toughest), I would lose a huge chunk of my bankroll and play new games. I never reloaded because of ewallets going down and black friday. So I continually took shots. I played Stud, I played Badugi, I got into 6 max PLO and got decent. If I would have stuck to holdem, tourneys, sngs,or full ring PLO on other sites, who knows how much easier things would have been and how much more money I would have won?

The point is that during my online career I was much more interested in learning against the toughest competition on the cheap than actually winning money.

There's absolutely no shame in that. But I was much happier when I accepted it.

The peak of my obsessive poker playing was 30/60 limit hold-em on Pacific Poker, four tables at a time, and considering the limits I was making a relatively small profit each year just playing mathematically correct. Then I got married and felt bad maintaining a big enough bankroll, so I dropped my limits and found it wasn't fun because the money felt meaningless and I was no longer disciplined. Then the poker boom happened and the competition got better. People found out about concepts like blockers and ranges and I never spent time evolving my game. So I'm happy to play live hold-em games now and then and feel competent against scrubs at low limits, but I doubt I'll ever be playing 5-10 unless my girlfriend dumps me and I go on a poker walkabout.

Nah that's since 2018. I took about 9 months off. I was getting swamped at work. We'll see how things go after the hurricane. Until then, I have 12 more days here.

That a pretty decent amount of time for it not being your occupation.  I am assuming this is 1/2 mostly?  I think I am done with 1/2 if I have other options.

Yeah 1/2.....Building the proverbial "roll." lol

If was truly rolled for it, I would play higher in a heartbeat.

I was down -$88 from the 2 hours or so a Wynn 1/3 and then lost another -$65 in the Flamingo Tournament the next day, so my total losses for the trip were -$153 for about 3 hours of playing (as you can tell from this thread, I love putting in long grinding sessions). Luckily my wife hit a jackpot last night on a slot machine and won $600 on a $1 spin, so at least combined we left Vegas as winners.

Back in LA...holy hell it's hot here...not 110's Vegas hot...more like 80's LA hot.

Cool hanging out with you DaveFu. Let us know when you're in LA and we can do a OG Meat n' Greet at Hollywood Park Casino (or Commerce, Bike or some other place).

I have been running so bad I am talking to myself. A month and a half of n badbeats even hands I win I get slowed down by the river. Taking a few months off for sure. Tonight lost with the nut flush, flopped a full house - lost and pocket Kings busted when I bet $100 pre flop and got called with 7-9 - guy hit two pairs. Never in my life seen shit like this.

As you can see I had some pretty nasty swings of the down variety at the worst time. I lost JJ to 75 for 150-200 preflop last night to a rivered straight. Good poker is tough poker. Bad play not being punished is what keeps the worse players around. You're the casino. You keep playing smart, you'll get all the damn money. You just have to learn enough discipline to keep playing your B-A game.

What kind of roll do you need to move up?
