Just because he was right on one topic(juding people on the content of their character) doesn't mean he was right on everything.

The government does not exist to provide for anyone. King was a smart man. Smart people get things wrong sometimes. This is a shining example of just that.

it was stated that 50-60% of homeowners were behind on mortgage payments. If so, time to get thoses people out of there. they were beyond their means. House rich and living on ramen and credit cards.

Real estate prices are way too expensive. The market across the board is 60% too high. people should not be paying 2-3 thousand bucks a month to live in standard lot 3 bedroom houses. its just stupid and irrational.

Trump will send you another check with his name on it

lol. Yeah, he's a good chap like that.

There's some meme about people getting extra unemployment. Something like "Instead of complaining about people taking advantage, maybe you should think about the fact that the money to sustain livable wages for all has been there all along?"

Dumb fuckers thinking they're smart. This is America.

MLK was a proponent of UBI, very forward thinking......... and then Bernie, Yang, AOC all looking out for the peasantry and HATED by the same people LOVING TrumpCheck$

I wonder if future generations will look back on us the same way we look back up on those Dickensian Times and feel pitty for us the same way we feel pitty for those living under the deplorable oppression INEQUALITY of the early Industrial Revolution?

It's funny that the person who would benefit the most from free income is probably the person that would be too proud to want it. Some person who was born into tough circumstances, abusive family or no family, limited intelligence, poverty, addiction in the household, etc. That person who forges on and somehow scrapes by at whatever job he/she can get and do competently, tries their hardest and keeps a good attitude, but comes up short often and is always in a struggle. That person who somehow saves enough and pushes to learn a trade, however menial it is. Then gets a decent job, but can't get promoted cause he's rough around the edges.

That's a person who is probably eating bologna and potatoes and struggling with bills and would deserve a break/free money. But if you tell that person, "hey, you don't need to struggle, there's a way to get free checks every month from the government", they might consider it, but inside they're going to know that basically means they are on welfare. Their strength of character will probably make them say "fuck that, I'm good. I can make my own way."

The people I know going on about UBI are typically the ones that are nothing like that person. They are people from decent, supportive, family backgrounds. People with no real shortcomings, able bodied, average intelligence at least, people who can do whatever they want basically but they just want it easy. One of them is a friend who is a food service manager. She's in charge cause she's decent looking and not a moron, but she sucks at her job. Shitty attitude, mean to employees, never smiles or acts positive with customers, etc. Always going on about her job sucking. I feel like she's mad cause she just wants to be a trophy wife or something, but she's not THAT good looking and she's unlikable. So she dates nerds and shits on them lol.

Another is a typical millennial dude, talks like it's IMPOSSIBLE these days for anyone to get a good job and have a good life "because of the BOOMERS", yet he spends all day and night playing video games and watching japanese cartoons. lol, how about you work hard and learn some shit if you want a good job/more money/awesome life?

I know, FRAT. What can I say, I don't post as much these days so I gotta bust loose on a FRAT once in a while to catch up.

Lol your loser step kids. Like, you married her. It’s her fault. She created the need.

lol. If I had knuckleheads like that under my roof I would go full Great Santini on them. Hit them on the head with a basketball over and over until they squirt tears.

True. But he wasn't correct.

The government exists to promote the general welfare, not provide.

Yeah take advice about America from someone who isn't American. Great idea!  Just what we needed another white liberal virtue signaling. Even better you found a hollywood celeb too! I can't wait to hear how he thinks walls are bad from inside his walled off and gated mansion.

There are no evictions in New York or NJ. So you can squat for hoever long that lasts.

Afterwards it is really difficult to get rid of a squatter in NY and NJ, so you have a lot if time if you just stop paying your rent.

NY protections end July 6. (originally were ended 6/20)

Never lived in the city? It takes upwards of a year, sometimes multiple years, to get a tenant evicted.

He's just doing his virtue signaling thing for attention. He doesn't actually research any of the comments he makes like this. Just assumes them to be right. He doesn't even care about the topic most times just wants to tell others they're wrong.

One thing to consider is if a landlord tries to evict a tenant, there's a good chance that broke bastard now has an arsenal funded by Stay at Home Stimulus money.

He has no job, no more bonus unemployment cash, and nothing to lose. Plus, it's not his fault, it's the corona screwjob. He is not responsible for anything that might happen, and he has a right to a home. You want rent? You'll get money when he gets money. Good luck with that situation.

I can see how people are going to be in tough situations with all the jobs lost.... but how are things dire this quickly.  It seems like either you kept your job..... so you shouldn’t be at any more risk of eviction than you were before.... or you are getting the stimulus bonus unemployment bump.... which should help avert mass evictions.  If they make no other changes, I can see this as a huge problem in Sept, but why now?

Is that optometrist office guy still here? Dude who got laid off and was all about getting free money and not paying rent. Be interesting to hear his take, even though he was dickish about everything.

I think most eye places are still on reduced hours so he's probably still chillaxin on that extra 600 a week.

Went back to work 7 weeks ago. Never got laid off, office just temporarily closed. The owner got the ppp loan and wanted me to come back to work and re-open earlier than originally planned, so he offered to pay me an extra $600 a week to come back to work since he knew it meant giving up the cushy unemployment life, and also some of my other co-workers didn't want to come back early. I happily accepted and opened up shop by myself for a little bit. It's true a lot of other practices are very slowly getting back to normal and have reduced hours, but i've been fortunate enough to be in a good situation where not only am I back to my regular salary and 40 hours a week, i'm still getting that extra $600 a week since my boss knows whats up.

My take though? Not everyone is fortunate to be in a stable situation like me, so I don't besmirch anyone for wanting to stay on the unemployment gravy train for a little while longer. Everyone has their own reasons. I've never been in favor of the extra unemployment money being permanent. and if that second wave hits and we have to close down again temporarily? I'll be right back on that unemployment train, no reservations.

You should live in Nevada. No evictions from failure to pay rent until September 1st. So Las Vegans get to live for free for the next 2 months, if they want.

lol. No offense but that all really sounds completely unrealistic.

Like you just made up the best case scenario in all ways possible to make yourself seem like the big winner of life.

Don't get all pissy though. It's the internet, people can believe or not believe whatever.

They’ll still owe all the back rent sept 1st.

Oh i'm not pissy. I know it's a very fortunate situation. Is it really that unbelievable though? I guess you would need to know more details about our revenue/contract/rent situation for it to be more plausible, but basically because of the ppp, he's able to give me a nice temporary bonus for coming back to work early when nobody else really wanted to. It will expire when the unemployment kicker does. But yeah, basically my boss is a good guy and treats us really well. Fiscally it made way more sense to come back to work since my work is only about 8 miles away, plus the added bonus of resuming accruing sick/vacation time. I'm not as lazy as you think!

Any landlord that has a loan on the property through Fannie or Freddie is not allowed to evict a tenant right now lol. This country is so fucked. We’re gonna be full blown socialists within 5-10 years
