My nephew, Philip who was 21 at the time was in a horrible skidoo accident last year and it left him paralyzed from the waist down.

He was skidooing on a lake on a bright sunny afternoon and while cruising he didnt notice a deadhead under the snow...  He hit the deadhead straight on and went flying off the machine and his landing left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Its been a horrible year for him and the family... Lots of rehab and hope that he could walk again only to discover over time that he will be paralyzed for life... He was a machinist and loved his work...

Throughout all of this he has been a positive as possible with the breakdowns of anger and depression as we would expect, but today he texted me this pic and said hes so proud of himself and that life is looking better!

Im so happy for him and i just wanted to share! Hes now strong enough to stand on his own!!! He has made friends at his local gym where other paraplegics work out and its been great for him!

He said " Even through my darkest days I will now see that I still have life in me"

Eeeeee!

J/k.  That's awesome news.  I have a cousin that's 47 and has been in a wheel chair for 30 years. He had some rough years with depression when it finally sunk in there was no hope to walk again.

Is there an indication that he will be walking again or is he holding himself while only using his upper body strength in this photo?

I'm assuming that he is starting to gain some control of his lower extremities based on the photo despite doctor's opinions that he would be permanently paralyzed?

Very cool and I wish him the best.
