Trump's recent tweets against Omar,Tlaib, Cortez and Pressley are not racist imho.

They may have been derogatory, harsh, extremely critical.....but not racist.

Here are Trump's tweets:

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

....and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how....

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

^ I don't see any verbiage that I would call 'racist' based on any dictionary definitions or any of my own beliefs.

Nowhere did he refer to race.

"Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how...."

^This seems to be the part of his tweet that is drawing the most "racist" criticisms.

But is it racist?

He was factually wrong about the four women going back to their own countries, as three of them were born in the US. He may be invoking xenophobia, hardball politics, nationalism, bad judgement....etc.

But I would not consider those words "racist".

Any time.

I am a fount of knowledge for those willing to listen.

And your assumption seems to be that everyone already knows he isn't racist, so I am just stating the obvious. But this is not true. A huge percentage of Americans think he is racist.

If you are going to be sarcastic, why don't you state your case a bit better.

3 of the 4 of them "originally" came from THIS country. So what is it about these four women in particular that made him say that they "originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world", do you think?

As for your second post, again, what is it about these four women that they should "go back" to the "places from which they came", when 3 of the 4 of them come from the United States? When he says "come back and show us how", who is the "us" that they are not a part of?

Serious question (if you follow politics even slightly):

In your opinion, what current politician would you name as the 'face' of the progressive movement?

I'm not going to allow you to hijack the thread.

If you were a respectful poster I might answer your off-topic questions.

But you're not. You are a dispenser of sarcasrm

Why don't you just read the thread, instead of polluting it?

4D chess at it's finest.  AOC is polling horribly among swing state dems.  That's why you have been seeing Pelosi and the other moderate dems admonishing them lately, to remind the dem voters that THEY are the reps of the dem party, and voters should not pay attention to these new socialist attention-seekers (AOC,Talib,Omar, etc).

WIth one tweet, Trump forced Pelosi and the old guard neolibs to publicly defend these upstart extremists.  They could not help themselves.  They take the bait every time...

We're not talking about which countries they came from.

It was a crude thing for him to say, but not actually racist.

it absolutely, 100% red meat for his racist base. as has been pointed out, with 1 exception, these women were born in america.

even in omar's' case, she came here when she was 10 years old. should all adults who came to this country as a little kids keep their opinions to themselves? does this rule apply to, say, ted cruz?

Yes most of the right here don't see any fault in anything he does. What he said is definitely racist and just very stupid overall considering hes the potus. But you can call it whatever you like.

I don't see where he said anything about four women.  Was that another tweet?

He never said anything about "4 women" and never named names. The MSM is again making up the news and telling us who he meant and that he doesn't know that 3 congresswomen were born in the US.

And obviously, there is noting "racist" in anything he said.

Oh yes, for those people who already believe he is a racist, it will be like red meat infused with gorilla hormones. They are blinded by their hate for him.

Please see my previous post re/ nationalism v racism. It may have been ill-advised for him to tweet that.

But none of his quotes are racist according to any definition of "racism" in any dictionary I could find.

there was a time when saying that brown people born in the united states should "go back to where they came from" was nearly universally, uncontroversially considered racist.

its true!

THAT would be a racist statement. But Trump didn't say that.

Calling someone a brown person who should do this or that would definitely be racist.

YOU are the one who asserted who the congresswomen are that he is referring to. they were born in the united states with one exception. there aren't congresswomEN from other countIES.

so, yes, exactly what he is saying is that brown skinned women, born in the united states, should go back to where they came from. which, at one time, was uncontroversially considered a racist thing to say.

Trump launched his political brand 8 years ago saying the first African American President was born in Africa. It has always been about racism, and the fact that this has ever been a controversial thing to say is part of the problem.

I must have missed the 'brown skinned woman' part of his tweet. Can you point it out to me?

All he really said was, "America is great! Love it or leave it!" which is especially appropriate for members of the US government. Absurd to have to tell government employees that they shouldn't fundamentally hate America.

Just because people don't agree with this countries direction doesn't mean mean they hate the country.
