From my experience

VW and Ford

I bought a new 1998 Passat. Needed a new timing belt at 50k.  Needed a new transmission at 70k.  It broke houses and broke down constantly.  It was a huge piece of shit

ford.  Bought a 2016 fusion. Blew a fucking gasket at 48k miles.  Had a major fuel issue at 45k.   Got rid of it and will never buy ford again.

This is just from a preference perspective, but I can’t stand the way Chevy trucks handle. Looks and sloppy, like OP’s mom. (Sorry OP, it was there and I took it)

You're basing your conclusion that Ford's suck because you bought a Fusion? Bro you bought a Ford car what did you expect? Buy a Ford truck like a real man.

VW's, Audi's, Chrysler's, Dodge's, and Mini's are usually turds.

I’d add the obvious turds like Range Rover, and anything Italian.

Audi- horrible depreciation, poor reliability, high parts and labor cost, pain in the ass to work on.

Google Audi 4.2 timing chain and then realize that mess is on the back of the engine.

Every brand listed in these posts is definitely a piece of shit. Now I’m just waiting to hear anecdotal stories of the great Audi or VW someone had lol

VW and Chrysler products

Have heard nothing but bad things from people I know that have owned them. Seems like Nissan has gone down quite a bit recently as well.

Excellent additions.

My neighbor's Range Rover is in the shop all the time.

He's british.

Around '08 or 09, I bought my wife an '06 Audi A6 Quattro, certified pre-owned warranty. Had about 20,000 miles on it. GORGEOUS real-wood trim and leather inside.

I don't think it ever went past 8 months without a Check Engine light coming on. All sorts of odd valves in the intake manifold, emissions stuff, ignition coils got replaced. The fucking buttons on the dash had their covering wrinkle-up and peel off.

Eventually, one of the computers died, and locked-up the driveline. Steering wheel would not turn, the wheels would not roll, engine would not even turn over. Wrecker company had to jack-up all 4 wheels and put dollies under each, to load it on a flatbed. Out of warranty by then, and spent over 3-grand getting it back on the road. It had about 85,000 miles on it then, and we dumped it.

He can afford it since he's saving all that money on dentist appointments.

03 Civics. Bad year for an otherwise reliable vehicle.

A Triple A guy came over to jump my dad's van which had been sitting for a while. I asked him what cars he services most often. Without hesitation he said Chrysler 300s FWIW.

I have owned Fords, Hyundai, Jeep, and VW. The VW seems to have the most issues. It had electronic problems constantly (2006 Jetta)

This is a great list. Problem free cars from these lines are generally the exception, not the rule.

Alfa started selling in SoCal this year (or last?) . To date, I've seen 3 being lifted onto tow trucks, 2 of which still had paper plates. Maserati has been making inroads as well, but I see one and immediately assume "more money than sense".

In my experience- anything other than Lexus or Toyota.
