Gambling is probably the most insidious and evil form of addiction out there. There are no direct physical side effects, especially if you’re gambling legally. You can pull the financial security and future out from under your family in a single night.

Nobody ever looks like they’re having any fun when they gamble like that.

That was perfectly put. Every ad for "gaming" shows people smiling, but instead, as you noted, people look grim.

Artie Lange admitted on his podcast before he went AWOL he lost like 4 million dollars overall gambling. The way he did it too. No strategy no thought, completely impulsive random bets with no rhyme or reason. He’d place bets then forget.

Gambling is how mayweather is eventually going to get into financial trouble. The casinos love to give him credit.

It's awesome when winning. But the adrenaline of a win is what makes it so bad when you lose. Two extremes.

I'm confident i'll get control of this eventually, just hope its sooner rather than later. The positive thing is that i'm not in debt, and my credit rating is the shits so no one will give me credit.

Don't gamble kids. It really has ruined my life. But Im young enough that I can recover. Im only 31.

You've admitted you're already 10+ years deep at this point.

You have $39 in your account after losing $3500, and can't even wait till Thursday for payday. You just bet your last $39.

I wager you're "confident" when placing your bets as well. Look how well that's worked out for you.

You're not at rock bottom yet. If you win your bet today, there is zero doubt in my mind you gamble away your winnings.

If there is a brightside, it is time. Hitting rock bottom is often the starting point of when people decide to improve their lives. Chasing quick cash is very thrilling, but oh so temporary and short lived. It's always about the "next" big win, and frankly, that's the trap. You have to be willing to put aside the love of making quick cash to correct the problem, and love something else that actually matters.

Who is anyonento say this. Rock bottom comes from a feeling of shame and desperation and a genuine desire for help that ultimately out weighs your desire to continue. It does not mean you are sucking dick at a bus station always. In my business I have known people that have ruined relationships, and themselves mentally far before they run out of money or go into debt. Some people will always have means to support addiction it does not make their bottom mote or less real

The 4.5 total for Spurs West Ham is very suprising....In all my years of betting soccer i've never seen over/under that high. But I suppose it is possible he has a very generous bookie...

I do not miss working in the casino business.

I've seen this story plenty of times

I’ve been to 3 casinos. They make me feel sad when old people are trying to sell stuff in the parking lot.

I don't work with soccer much but 99.9 is 2.5 for the over under....maybe a typo but we had it at 2.5. Currently 3-0 80 min in the under was a good bet

And looks like he won it. And that is why sports betting is so absurd...

I used to work with a guy who made pretty good money (over 100k) but was always broke.

One year he had to produce proof of losses at tax time because his winnings were over $100,000 on slot machines but he still had no money because he gave it all back plus the money he made from work.

Just try harder next time.   Gambling is all about effort

Exactly, if he followed Kbabs threads, he’d know he just needs to keep doubling his bets until he gets his money back.

Shit if someone one will just lend him an extra 11$, he could turn that into 2$Million in 60 days!

I moved out of a room I was renting when my roommate, who looked a lot like me, was grabbed at our front door. They drove him to Barstow (the desert) and made him dig a hole at gun point and lay face down. They took a picture and sent it to his parents with a note saying he was going to die in that hole if they didn’t pay his debts. They paid and he kept gambling.

Holy shit. Mind telling us more about this? Was this a recent event? Didn’t think these sort of Hollywood scenarios really happened. I know a recovering gambling addict who would talk to Me about his mistakes and you could tell he’s telling anyone and everyone willing to listen “don’t make the mistakes I made in my life, be wiser and learn” another guy I worked with had this addiction. Anyone near his working station would find at least 15-20 scratch off tickets a day in the area. Vacation time was spent in AC or an off track betting place. One of the few addictions that creeps me to the core.

This was almost 30 years ago. My roomie was 23 and betting 12-15k a week on Football. He got in deep with the wrong guys and since his Dad was rich and a gambler...it was well known who his parents were. Sadly he never stopped gambling and they cut him off and never spoke to him again.

In my 20 years in the casino business I saw so many sad stories, people ruining their lives and often the lives of those close to them, whether family or business partners.

I know it's an illness, but I have trouble having any sympathy for gamblers. Dealing with their whining and bitching and toxicity for two decades left me calloused

Nice bet! I had Tottenham winning along with some NFL bets and in true Tottenham fashion they choked and blew the win.
