Anderson Silva is arguably the greatest fighter in UFC history. And he's 45 and recently had knee surgery. "The Spider" has won just one fight since 2012, a disputed decision over Derek Brunson. And despite the record, he's still Anderson Silva, losing then failing to regain the middleweight belt, seeing a win over Nick Diaz changed to NC over a failed PED test, losing Fight of the Nights vs. Michael Bisping and Israel Adesanya, making Daniel Cormier look scared to engage and on short notice, and finally suffering a knee injury vs. Jared Cannonier.
Conor McGregor recently mused about the MMA G.O.A.T. debate, putting himself, maybe, just behind Silva. And now Silva has called him out at an 80 kg catchweight.
"SUPER FIGHT 176.37LBS. I have immense admiration for the great athlete that Conor is and I believe that a super fight would go down in the history of the sport," wrote Silva on his social network. "Neither of us needs to prove anything to anyone; I believe that fans of the UFC and of this sport would like to watch this great martial arts spectacle, it would be fantastic to test my martial arts skills against him!!"
•Would Dana make the fight?
•Would you pay to watch the fight?
•Who will win?
