There were multiple time when Roy was open to the head and Tyson just let a soft body shot go. I got the sense Tyson didn’t go to the head nearly as much as he should of if this was a real boxing match. Anyone else feel this way?

I don’t know. I didn’t watch.
Tbh he was probably just not good, everybody over here acting like that didn’t look like 2 old slow dudes fighting
TzTinkle - Yea, either of them taking a bunch of head shots is a bad idea. I wonder what their sparring looked like? Mike's head movement was great so that makes me think he was doing a good amount of fairly serious sparring.
It was a televised sparring match that they got paid for. Of course he pulled his punches. The soul purpose of this was for nostalgia
Absolutely!
There was clearly an effort made to not go to the head. He worked that body, though.
Both were holding back to the head. But the body was game. That’s what a normal sparring should be. You can see in the 7th round Roy threw a flurry by the ropes that purposely came up short. If he wanted he could of easily landed that on Mike. These guys may be 50 but they haven’t forgotten how to hit someone in the face.

Thanks for you detailed analysis. Quality post as always

I think you nailed it here. Same opinion.
Before the last round Tyson's corner was saying "now you go out and get this decision!!"
That should tell you all you need to know.
I think he felt bad for Roy and wanted to end it with a body shot instead of giving him brain damage.

Doubt it. Decision was the idea. This was a total promo where Tyson kept his cool and was in great shape and looked good. Roy did his part too, big time. It looked good, especially for what it was.
Did y’all not see Roy repeatedly display his “special move” early on with no obvious repercussions to the head from Tyson? Those shots shoulda been there cause Roy ain’t got the speed and reflexes he had back when - to legit make that showy stuff work now.
It was a more entertaining fight than I expected. That’s me tho - and it was still a work, none the less. I’d actually enjoy seeing Tyson do a legit fight against another old fuck now. Just 1. We don’t need no sad out with him trying to push too far.
I’d rather 1 legit fight against a peer than a series of further works.
AnotherTMAguy -This was Tyson's last exhibition for comparison. Whenever he threw the RH, his opponent went down or Tyson had to hold him up.

This was a tour of exhibitions he did with Sanders whom well, had lost multiple fights prior to the exhibition.
Tyson v RJJr as an exhibition was a glorified hard sparring match.
Yeah I'm just showing why Tyson didn't throw it as often in the RJJ fight.

You're so cool

Not really sure what you're disagreeing about. Are you saying Mike was never going to try and take him out? That could be but he threw some heavy KO power shots that were close. Some of those body shots were brutal too. Fight was better than I expected and since I didn't have to pay for it, I can't complain. Wish Roy would've clinched less, but I can't say I blame him.
Absolutely he pulled punches to the head.
Its almost as if, this was an exhibition match
