UnderGround Forums Colby Covington sick of UFC treating him like crap

According to “Chaos,” the initial offer was a “take it or leave it” deal and the UFC left no room for discussion on the details. Since Covington doesn’t consider himself a title challenger, he said he is unwilling to accept a generic contract offer.

“My side of the story is, I’m ready to fight, I was ready to fight, but the UFC came to be with the basic challenger’s offer,” Covington said. “I’m a champion. There was no negotiation. They came and ran at me and said, ‘Here, take this, or leave it and we’ll pass it on to the next person. That’s not fair negotiating and that’s not right. So I’m not going to take the first offer that you offer me.”

Hopeful for a compromise, Covington explained he wants to be paid what his worth. In his mind, he’s the A-side in this fight and should be compensated as such. Additionally, he said Usman should house some of the blame for the fizzled bout proposal and alleged the champion was refusing to fight everyone the UFC offered.

“We need to meet in the middle,” Covington said. “There’s more that needs to be done. But also, I’m the A-side and you can’t even get the B-side done with Usman. Why are we even rushing this if you can’t get the B-side done?

colby is in no position to demand equal pay. yes, fighters should get what they deserve but being difficult for the sake of being difficult is a duck move.

No duck at all. Saying that is just some chest-beating, manly virtue signalling bullshit.

Fighters in the this league are underpaid when looking at profit being shared, compared to all other sports.

All of them should be negotiating for more. Good agents do this. It happens in all sports. It's only in this sport that some fans use it as a way to make themselves feel tough.

You really think Colby is afraid of Usman? Really?

oh oh....someone call the wahmbulance!

Been saying this since last year when he ducked the Woodley fight. Dude thinks he is worth way more than he is, and the numbers dont back it up. If UFC thought he was a draw they would have no problem bumping him up. He can talk all he wants about Masvidal and Diaz being journeymen or whatever, but they are a few paygrades above him for a reason.

Not necessarily "afraid" of usman, but he clearly knows that its a risk if he were to lose cuz all his schtick and maga bs will make it a hard fall. So he wants to get paid big on this 1 fight

Pretty much. He thinks he’s a big draw when he isn’t and the ufc knows it. If he were they wouldn’t be sticking him on sat afternoon cards and passing him over for title shots.

I’m no fan of Colby but you should know that the UFC tries to pay a lot less then these fighters are worth.

Hate or love Colby has a belt and has fought everyone that was put in front of him. This would be the best selling scenario since No one cares to see Usman fight.

These 2 have history. Of all the people who deserve champ pay Colby is at the top. Him and Tony have fought when they could have just stayed on the sidelines.

without trolling: yes.

I believe colby knows usman is a very tough fight and wants to cash in while he has the chance. a confident fighter would take the deal, beat usman, and then tell the ufc to suck his dick afterwards, i.e. tyrone woodley.

Once you have the REAL BELT the UFC is fucked unless they try to strip you due to inactivity

You sound ridiculous. None of these guys are scared of each other lol. He’s actively been working towards fighting the champion, and your theory is he’s afraid now that he’s reached that point? Just dumb.

Now that Masvidal is officially fighting Diaz. The ONLY options for Usman to fight are Colby and Edwards.

Obviously 99% of the fans would rather see the Colby fight than the Edwards fight.

In that regard I feel like Colby does have a small amount of leverage here because the UFC really only has 2 options, and he is the obvious better option of the two.

nope, usman could rematch woodley.

Colby also acted like a snitch bitch at UFC 241 telling Dana that Jorge was threatening him.

source: Jorge on Helwani

I go, 'What the fuck are you talking about Dana? and he goes, 'No Colby's telling me you're trying to assault him'."

They wanted to pay him less for a title fight than what he made against Lawler. Say what you want about Colby but that's a typical scumbag move by the UFC.

I don’t think the Hollywood elite that run the UFC want a white MAGA champion as one of the faces of their company... he’s never gonna have an easy road with anything with that gimmick.
