Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will each command a hefty payday for their rematch tomorrow night (Sat., Jan. 23, 2021) at UFC 257 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Etihad Arena on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., as the two lightweights square off in a highly-anticipated main event

McGregor, who hasn’t fought since a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone last January, is hoping to capture a win over “Diamond” and lock down the next UFC lightweight title shot. This will be the Irishman’s first appearance at 155 pounds since a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2018.

As expected, “Notorious” is set to earn a substantial fight purse for his rematch with Poirier. According to a recent report by the Independent, McGregor will bank $5 million in salary to step inside of the cage at UFC 257. This is $2 million more compared to what he earned against “Cowboy” just twelve months ago. Looks like UFC had to sweeten the pot since McGregor won’t earn much of anything off fan attendance.

“Notorious” will be eligible to earn much more following the main event bout through PPV buys and backend revenue, which could earn him close to $20 million when it’s all said and done. After all, McGregor is projecting UFC 257 to pull in at least 1.6 million PPV buys.

As for Poirier, the long-time UFC veteran is expected to earn $1 million for his rematch with McGregor this weekend on “Fight Island.” That is the biggest payday of his professional MMA career. Poirier will also have the opportunity to bring in more money on the backend as well as McGregor donating $500,000 to The Good Fight Foundation.

UFC 257 is expected to be one of the biggest PPV shows of the year for the promotion and the winner of McGregor vs. Poirier 2 will likely get the next UFC lightweight title shot. It’s a great prize for both men, especially on top of the millions being earned this weekend on “Fight Island.”

That is good of Conor to fight for the bargain basement price of 5 million,  him being a billionaire and all.

Conor McGregor reveals he has four fights left on UFC deal and wants to fight it out in the “first quarter of 2021”

Conor McGregor could soon be entering free agency.

McGregor, who is the biggest star in MMA’s history and is known for being in the UFC, has revealed he has four fights left on his contract and wants to fight that out this year. Not only does he want four fights in 2021, but the Irishman says he wants four fights in the first quarter of the year.

“I’ve got four fights left on this contract with the UFC,” McGregor said to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. “I’d do it in the first quarter of 2021 if they give me the dates.”

If McGregor enters free agency, it would be a surprise if he left the UFC. However, it would give him an option to pursue a boxing bout against Manny Pacquiao. If the Irishman is a free agent, he wouldn’t need the UFC’s permission, nor would he have to give the Las Vegas-based promotion a cut of his fight purse as he did for the Floyd Mayweather bout.

Not only does Conor McGregor want to fight out his contract in the first quarter of 2021, but he also says he wants seven fights in the next 18 months. After Dustin Poirier, it is uncertain who he would fight, but would have options in Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker, or Michael Chandler among others.

“The truth is the fight game will never get rid of me,” McGregor said. “Conor McGregor will be here until the day I go out. So that’s it. If they line me up, I’ll get about seven fights in the next year and a half. That’s what I want.”

Regardless, it is good to see that Conor McGregor wants to be active after only fighting inside the Octagon twice since he beat Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.

$1 million for Dustin is nothing to sneeze at for a guy that’s been in as many wars as he has.

"Fan" reaction to UFC PPV announcements:

Dustin in main event: "Soooooo.... who else is on the main card? Anyone exciting? A title fight in the co-main, maybe? Not sure if I'll go for this one...."

Conor in main event: " Fuck yeah! Can't miss that! Money is no object! Jack it to $100! I'm buyin' that shit and I don't care if it's Conor vs. Recently Deceased and 4 fights between chicks on the main card!"

Pretty sure that's how UFC's matchmakers and marketing folks have it figured.

Conor desperately needs the money. His so-called return to fighting is nothing more than a massive elaborate round about way to beg for money.  Cap in hand seeking financial assistance from his flock of little fans. Prop up his failing empire. What is he shrieking about, fight 4 x's this year? Same as he was pleading last year to fight 4 x's? If his window washer fluid company was doing so well, and his paint rag company was doing so well, he'd (a) be making 100 million p.a. while playing golf every sunday with chastity belt secured royalty and (b) would be so busy running his empire he would not have time for training at all.

But here he is the billionaire shriveling up like a rat to make weight to perform like a chimp in a cage for a handful of dollars. Quite sad really.

I doubt that he desperately needs the money, he made approx $48M in 2020 and will do close to that in 2021, after this fight he is almost half-way there.

Yeah Forbes has his net worth at 48 million. Soooo, I’d have to say this is more likely
