Jon Jones, arguably the greatest fighter in UFC history, has been in a bitter, week-long argument with league president Dana White over potential compensation for a superfight vs. top heavyweight Francis Ngannou. And now Jones says he has given up his title.

Jones was asked if he was giving up his title and replied "yes."

White says Jones will determine his own future.

"Jon Jones is one of the greatest to ever do it," said White in a statement to Neil Davidson for The Canadian Press. "The decision he wants to make regarding his career is up to him. The reality is that he's made enough money from fighting that he's now in the position to retire and never work again in his life."

Can't believe nobody was able to ever beat him by knock out or TKO. Even with Reyes, all those kick and punches Jones was able to absorb and keep on pushing forward. Unreal. I think he retires until a big pay day. He's still a steroid cheat in my eyes though with a huge reach and size advantage over his opponents. Unfair for his competition.

A cheat for sure but the reach and height argument is silly, he made weight every time

Yep. Multiple time cheater with an asterisk by his name but height and reach is not anything that should be brought up negative. Certainly a big advantage for him but it isn't cheating.

As far as subs, Vitor had him in that armbar, but Vitor let go due to unforced error.

Rumble or Ngannou would KO Jones.

Never considered that Jones title reign might end like GSPs - via dispute with the UFC instead of loss.

He’s still only 32. And has essentially ruled the division for 9 years.

Jones said he gives up the belt. Ufc should grab it and schedule a title fight with the next two contenders. Problem solved. Once Jones is done having his fit, he can build his way back. Otherwise, he can sit and wait for his contract to end.

Dana need to call Rumble up and let him and Reyes fight for the Title. When jones comes back let his first fight be to kickoff the PPV no Main Event PPV points

I never understood that argument and disregard the opinions of anyone who has it.

They can do Reyes vs Santos with Jan as the #1 Contender who gets winner.

Jon's contract will be would be on hold. He can't sit it out. He could relinquish the title and demand to fight the remaining nontitle fights as quickly as possible. UFC is contractually obligated to offer him 3 fights a year.
