UnderGround Forums DFW: We have four or five locations for UFC 249

UFC president Dana White spoke recently with Mike Tyson, and discussed trying to hold UFC 248 on April 18 in the midst of the SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic.

“I’m gonna try and pull off Tony vs. Khabib on April 18 and try to get some normalcy back in this country,” said White, as transcribed by Mike Heck for MMA Fighting. “Every day that I work on this thing, I get another curve ball thrown at me. Every time we plan something, it falls apart — I have to re-do it, re-do it.

“I have four or five locations right now and we’re getting this deal done. And then we’re going to figure out who we can get in, who we can’t, what we can do and we’re going to build a card around it.”

“Everybody’s running and hiding. I’m one of those guys that would rather get out there and find solutions. How do we figure this out? How do we beat this thing?

“Listen, if you’re somebody that’s a high risk, you should probably stay away and stay quarantined for a while. What happens when flu season comes again next year? What happens then?

“I think that the media has made this thing scary. People are buying all of the toilet paper there is. If you just look at a lot of things that are going on, it’s wacky and totally driven by fear. It’s very weird.”

“I think that in a year or two, we’re going to be like, ‘holy s***, we shut down the whole world for this thing.'”

Candidates for the location are believed to include Florida, UAE, and an unidentified Tribal commission.

In a year or two, we may also look back and say how reckless it was to hold this event.

If they test everyone that's part of this event then I agree with Dana 100%.

If everyone is tested, quarantined at time of testing, only people admitted would be limited to those who meet above criteria.. THEN I get it. I suppose. Seems silly. Why bother.

I don't see how having this event is really that reckless.

People are still getting in buses and cabs, picking up food at restaurants, etc.  Having a small gthering like this event is inconsequential, and I would bet that the UFC is taking all possible precaucions.

I hope so bad it happens.

This. There are more people at the local Walmart than in a spectator free arena for a night of fights.

Let me provide cliff notes: “There are no other sporting events, people are dying for sport action, they will tune in, this will be the biggest money maker ever!”.........

The reality is, there's hundreds of people who would have to be tested in order to ensure this would be completely safe, and that's just really irresponsible right now with the shortage of testing there is right now. The optics of a bunch of millionaires getting tested just so a cafe fight can happen, would be really bad

My roomates both still jump on packed buses to work. Work all day around people, usually grab some pickup food on their way home and their jobs are not what most would consider essential, but two people can't fight in a ring if precautions are taken?

Theyre testing 400 people a day drive through at one spot in Detroit. I think they 100 or so that would be there would be not quite irresponsible

If a couple of people die so we can see Tony and Khabib that's a price worth paying. How many people die in black friday stampedes every year?

If he sends Khabib locations, will Khabib even be able to get to locations?
