UnderGround Forums Dana shuts Conor down once again...

The other day Kavanagh was talking about the fight happening at WW.

The charity fight, the fight in Nov/Dec, Cowboys Stadium and now WW have all been shut down by Dana.

How times have changed.

It was less than a year ago that Cowboy vs Conor at WW was enough in Dana's mind to earn Conor a crack at Khabib for the LW title. Dana even got on fans for being critical of the opponent selection.

Then all of a sudden after his next fight Dana thought Cowboy was about done and they needed to have a talk.

Now here we are, fights up a weight now mean nothing down at LW.

Things sure have changed a lot over the past ten months.

Good to hear!

170 for a guy who wants to earn a title shot at 155 makes no sense.

Here Dana is in January after the Cowboy fight saying Cowboy is not shot and after the WW win over Cowboy that Conor would get a LW title fight rematch with Khabib because that is what Conor wanted.

All of a sudden Conor Poirier at WW makes no sense and thats the type of fight another promotion would do but its not what the UFC does.

I'm glad the UFC won't be giving Conor special treatment on the weight cutting here but its funny they just pulled that bullshit in Jan.

1-1 at Lightweight with his only win being 4 years ago and still somehow ranked #5 though?

Dana knows the only way he can make money on Conor vs Khabib 2 is if Conor takes fight at LW to make Khabib happy and Dana cares about that $$$$$ so he can come out and put pressure on fight being at LW so he can try to set up the rematch in 2021.

Conor without special treatment is your average journeyman

Your average journeyman who obliterates champions of 2 weight without taking a meaningful punch. What?

He was a great featherweight with one good lightweight win.

Conor does this at 170 because if he loses it doesn't affect his standing at 155. It's always been the case

same reason he never went back down to rematch Aldo at 145

Just made me wonder what if Conor was the same fighter but with the personality of a Robbie Lawler. Who knows if he had ever held a title.

See I disagree. I think Conor wants to fight at 170lbs when he can so he doesn’t have to cut weight, and it’s easier on his body. Maybe call it lazy.

However, I don’t think it makes a big difference. If both guys agree to fight at 170lbs, then what’s the hurt? Dana never cared before. All of a sudden he’s playing into what Khabib wants.

Exactly. Glad one poster isn't falling for Dana's "logic" (throw a tantrum and claim its obvious). Definitely ulterior motives either to please Khabib/abu dhabi, or spite Conor.

The days of Conor dictating to the UFC are over because Dana has a new favourite fighter and his name is Khamzat Chimaev

I could have sworn either Dana and/or Conor actually just said the Cowboy fight wa at 170 because he doesn't want to do the weight cut.
I might have imagined that....

170 makes zero difference to me.  Conor and Dustin are both small LW's.  They will enter this fight at their natural weight, hydrated, and I suspect we will see the best of both of them because of this.

You can actually see it as honorable that both these guys are doing this and not trying to get a rumble advantage.

And if Conor wins fuck it, make him and khabib at 170.  Who cares about the title for the rematch.

Something has clearly changed in the relationship between these two. In the past Conor got whatever Conor wanted. Not so much these days, interesting.

I don’t think it’s “pandering” to Khabib, but Khabib is certainly part of this. Like or not he is a star at this point. BLAF would probably rather cater to his current undefeated champ who isn’t insanely difficult to deal with, than his former golden boy ex champ who retires twice a year.
