TRT Belfort.

Belfort still had heart problems.

When he fatigued.

This thread is assuming he has unlimited stamina.  In that case he smokes Jones, who is the GOAT.

It wasn't just fatigue.

It wasn't just fatigue.

Those other issues only start to surface when he starts to fatigue.  There isn't any fighter I can think of that can withstand TRT Vitor's onslaught in the first minute of a fight when he comes out blazing, which is why you don't see anyone trying to go toe to toe with him when he is fresh.  I think he has the absolute highest potential when he is 100% fresh.  Which was the question in the OP.

But we can agree to dissagree.

BJ comes to mind immediately.

Great thread topic by the way.

Nothing is worse than a loss to cardio.

Although Ive been a fan of MMA/NHB for the past 25 years, you dont need me to tell you that lack of cardio is still a fucking issue in "professional" combat sports.

While not realistic (unfortunately), they need to implement a cardio version of USADA.

If you cant pass a cardio "test", you dont fight.

Aldo. He was always gassed by the 4th and would start coasting. Connor is the big answer here tho. I don't count the big felllas. None of them are meant to have huge cardio levels.

Shane Carwin and Sapp are good examples.

Aldo is 7-0 in fights that went 5 rounds.

The only reason Aldo is not as great as he was is because his legs are shot and he can't be aggressive with them cause of the wear and tear so he mostly relies on boxing

Prime good neck Shane Carwin

My first thought. Or Tank.

Young Tank had a gas tank! tournaments, high elevation.they had to fix one side of the bracket to screw Tank.

Prime Bob Sapp. His chin was pretty good too.

The first minutes of his fights always looked like a car crash. Imagine 15 or 25 minutes of that.

As long as his opponents couldn't punch straight he would be a killer. :P

BiggGunn - BJ Penn is the correct answer.

BJ, Rumble, and Vitor all have problems beyond cardio. They are front runners. Cardio alone doesn't solve that.

Peak BJ destroyed GSP for a round, then cardio issues hit. While I haven't watched that fight in forever, I remember thinking it could have been justifiably stopped.

I'm just saying....

Penn didn't destroy GSP in the first round of their first fight. He won the round but it wasn't as bad for GSP as you remember it.

2001 era Ken Shamrock. He put the beating of
a lifetime, and a masterworks seminar of sprawl-n-brawl when he fought Fujita, but gassed out.

Dan Henderson is a good one also. The beginning of his career his cardio was at its peak w 3 tournament wins. The 2nd half of his career he faded quickly and had to conserve energy
