UnderGround Forums Greatest fall from grace in mma

Pretty much every fighter has a fall from grace. Very few get out before it happens.

Everybody ages differently, but I think Torres is one of the best examples of a guy losing it before he should have.

Another one is Kid Yamamoto. 17-1 in MMA wins over guys like Sudo, Uno, Royler, Yahya, Bibiano, Curran. Great standup, some of the best ground n pound ever in the sport and a phenomenal wrestler. Ends up hurting himself (shoulder?) trying out for the Olympic team at 31 and was never the same since. 1-5 since then and hasn't even shown a glimpse of his old self.

If we had TJ, Barao, healthy Cruz, Faber and prime Yamamoto right now at 135, it would be the best top 5 the sport had ever seen. Phone Post 3.0

I'm going to say Jon Jones. If he does not come back it would be a Tiger Woods like fall from grace. He could be the greatest MMA fighter ever. Phone Post 3.0

Yeah, Noguiera, Shogun, Anderson, Rampage etc really had no impact when they came over. Phone Post 3.0

Yeah..

I don't know where this misconception comes from.

Silly.

Somebody threw it out there earlier, but nobody replied. He definitely just straight lost his mind. Phone Post 3.0
Yeah, that is a good one. His was definitely the most strange too. Dude was a world-beater....then he lost his mind. That last Chael fight was such a weird one..... Phone Post 3.0

Honorable mention to Brett Rogers.

Guy from 10-0 and beating Andrei Arlovski and fighting Fedor to 15-11 against cans, as well as beating the shit out of his wife. Phone Post 3.0

It started when Shogun and Crocop came over and looked terrible. But besides that a lot of Pride fighters went on to have great runs. Phone Post 3.0

If he doesn't come back he'll retire undefeated. I don't see any similarities between that and what happened to Tiger Woods. Phone Post 3.0

Shogun became a UFC champion, brother. Briefly, because Jon Jones was just inevitable. Phone Post 3.0

Such a pity. Filiho had some of the best bjj I'd ever seen in mma, no joke. Unreal how his career has gone.

And the face tattoo just clinched it.

Being koed twice by a young top 5 p4p fighter doesn't mean he fell off Phone Post 3.0

Alexander Emelianenko. He mostly lived in his brother's shadow, but the guy was skillful. He was light on his feet and quick with his hands. His ground game was okay, yet his personal demons destroyed him. He lost an MMA fight to Peter Graham, and he lost his last fight against Dmitry Sosnowsky. Before all that, he was not permitted to fight in Affliction because he was accused of having hepatitis B. KSW refused to give him a fight, for there were allegations that he had hepatits C. Most recently, he gets convicted for sexual assault, Which indicates that he will stay in prison for four and a half years.

Yeah I listed a few other things too on this thread as well. It all adds up to the greatest fall of all time IMO. Phone Post 3.0

NUMBERON3MMA - Hate to say it, but hope Dominick Cruz doesn't end up in this boat.
I think he might already be there, which is a massive shame. If he ever fights again I doubt it will be for the title. Phone Post 3.0

Him and TJ getting into on Twitter today, I think that fight will happen. Wish him the best.

I know. I'm talking about when he looked horrible against Griffin and Crocop got his head kicked off by Gonzaga. Everyone thought Pride was dead. But it wasn't. Not even close. Phone Post 3.0

1. Tim Sylvia: From world champ to jobber to fat joke... Tim was a force for a while there.

2. Ricco Rodrigues: From world champ to jobber to fat joke to celebrity rehab.  He could have been one of the best...alas.

3. Josh Koshcek: held on too long... went from being a contender to being a footnote.

4. Sokoudjou: After knocking out Lil Nog and Arona in Pride, everyone thought he was going to be huge...alas.

Guy never really wanted to strengthen his grappling. His story is perfect example of a fighter refusing to evolve. At a young age no less Phone Post 3.0

I believe Diego Sanchez did. Kinda sad that after the BJ/Sanchez fight, they were both never as deadly again Phone Post 3.0
