To implement an occasional super fight championship. So many great fighters clear their division and get snubbed from ever fighting for the belt (Jacare, Aljamain Sterling, Rafael Assuncao, Joe Benevidez, Cub Swanson, Edson Barboza, etc), why not implement something like the BMF occasionally for great fighters in the top 5? Have it be a one-off, unlike the meaningless interim belt. Ngannou vs. Volkov for a super fight title would make sense right now. Benavidez vs Sterling, Anderson vs Smith, throw the top 5 guys on good streaks in there.

I’m not a fan of that. It’s like a consolation prize for guys not good enough to get a belt.

What’s wrong with that after the UFC bought up every other org? These guys would usually be Titan, Pride, WEC or Strikeforce champs.

I get what you’re saying but imo in order to get a belt in the UFC you should be at the tip top of the division. Other belts just cheapen that.

Do you feel that the BMF belt cheapens Usman's world championship? They aren't comparable imo, and neither would a Superfight belt be.

If anything, the current last minute "interim WORLD champion" to fill a PPV slot cheapens the real belt. No offense at all Dustin Poirier but he was never the WORLD champion of any weight class and we all knew it, although he sure as hell deserved a belt for beating Holloway. Nothing wrong with having Yoel Romero and Anthony Johnson fight tomorrow for a one-off Superfight trophy though, I'd buy it.

On the other hand, we saw Israel crowned a world championship late because Whittaker- who he eventually wrecked- was out. That was one of the rare instances when the interim belt was legitimized. We'll see how Colby does this weekend, although him getting his belt was rushed too just so the UFC could flex on TWood.

Why?

The only negative I can see would be goofs wanting undeserved superfights. Maybe any time two top-5 guys fight each other, put a superfight belt on the line. This could cross weight classes too, who doesn't want to see Brian Ortega vs Tony Ferguson in a main event with a championship on the line? Or Darren Till vs Thiago Santos? Holly Holm vs... Just realized there's no women's 145 in the rankings other than Amanda. That's a way bigger joke than a superfight.

I wish Chael would go on a 15 - 0 run, and win the UFCFU title by beating DC, Jon Jones, Stipe and Adesanya o. The same night in a 16 man tournament at MSG with Caitlin Jenner and Fallon Fox as the ring girls! Wood order.

The only way to introduce a new belt is for an Asian Pacific or European or Australasian type belt. That way the rankings can not be used & only set fights on a win/loss or winning streak type set up over a 12 or 18 month period.

A fight between two top five contenders is not a super fight, it’s a fight to get you higher up the rankings to get to a title fight.

To me a super fight is between two champions in different weight divisions or two legends of the sport

This is why they should have tournaments. It could be separate from the championship,  and just give the winners a trophy or something and it would up their ranking.

No thank you. I mean, the BMF belt was fun for what it was, but it should be kept at that. If they wanna keep making fun fights with just that belt, I'm OK with it, but no more over saturating.

Not a fan.

BMF is stupid too. You know who the real BMF is in the division? The fucking champ. BMF belt is so ridiculous.

The title should not be the only way to get paid. The title system is too arbitrary, just works according to BLAF’s whimsy. Fighters should get paid for technical excellence, athletic superiority and for drawing eyes.  The champ is not the only one who does that.
