If he fights and beats Ferguson, I may have to fully get on the Khabib train. Sigh.

The mark of a great fighter is one that doesn't take any damage. He's like a boa constrictor that you can't hit, but he keeps striking you.

Like Uncle Chael always says “It’s all about -I hit you but you don’t hit me.”

Is Khabib legit the most dominant fighter ever?

Even jones would get tagged up. GSP also. Fedor too. I've never seen a guy dominate to this extent.

Of those listed, Khabib has fought the least great competition... at least so far.

RDA, Johnson, Poirier, Conor, Edson, Raging Al... I’d say he’s only a win against Tony away from being the clear GOAT at LW at least.

Tony's list is Cowboy, Pettis, Lee, RDA, Barboza. Its pretty close. Does Tony winning make him the GOAT lightweight?

Probably not, I would say he would need to defend the belt a couple of times. Khabib has already defended twice, if he beats Tony that’s 3. I would never call a guy a GOAT if he hasn’t at least shown he can defend a title.

GOAT discussion is always with a subjective criteria depending on who you ask.

Yep. He is ridiculously good at grappling, to the point where people can't even fight back.

It's like when Ronda was armbaring people every single fight in a row. Except Khabib can actually sustain it because he is decent in other areas (has a good chin, cardio, good enough striking).

Khabib can only lose against (1) a BJJ specialist or (2) someone who is ridiculously strong with good takedown defense and better striking than Khabib (e.g. a welterweight like Tyron or Kamaru). No such BJJ specialists exists at 155, and anyone in the 2nd category is at welterweight.

I think thats kind of BS. Here's why.

officially Khabib won the title when he fought Al Iaquinta on a days notice. Al didnt even train for a 5 round fight or to make the 155lb mark. He beat Conor the next fight. I feel like that should be the start of his title reign. Conor was the lineal LW champion who was stripped. Poirier should be defense one.

Otherwise, Tony's interim title win against Kevin Lee might be even more legitimate and two subsequent wins against Pettis and Cerrone puts him in a similar boat with Khabib.

Al was ranked number 11 when he fought Khabib for the interm title. And if I remember he wasn’t even eligible to win the title because he didn’t make CH weight. Khabib’s defense or unification against a guy who hadn’t fought in 2 years but managed to hold on to the title? Just goes to show how fucked up LW has been the last 3 years. It’s a major bummer Tony was stripped too and he wasn’t in on any of those fights. Khabib is the clear winner in each of those contests. He does need to beat Tony to solidify his status as the best LW imo. He should fight him next. Then set up the GSP fight as his last.
