Fuck letting Gaethje, Pettis, Barboza and Lee get all the big fights.

This guy has had some huge wins, Elkins, Stephens, Lentz, Brooks, Miller, etc...

Four fight win streak, all time UFC sub record. Give the man a top five, fuck politics.

I agree 100% but who? Kevin Lee? Or maybe Gregor Gillespie?

I agree. I feel like he's been so good for so long and hasn't been given the chance to get in there against someone that could rocket him toward a title shot. I'd imagine this wiln tonight will give him some fuel to demand a huge name for his next fight that would put him into position for either a title eliminator, or a title fight, in under a years time.

That division is so backed up because of the size of the talent pool, the Conor shit, the Khabib shit, the Ferg injuries.

Its complicated but for sure in other divisions he would have had an easier time to climb the ladder.

So true. He fought at 145 before, his rise would probably be quicker there. Bouncing between divisions when your not a star is like starting all over at a new job, unfortunately.

I’ve been a huge fan of Oliveira since his debut, but this is a ridiculous statement.

He’s gotten opportunities against Cerrone, Pettis, Edgar, Holloway, and Lamas and lost all of them. To act like he hasn’t been given opportunity laden fights is retarded

Most of those guys weren't where they are today, though. Holloway (while good) wasn't the world champion he is today, and Cerrone (while good) was still on the come up. Fighting a guy on the come up isn't the same as fighting the same guy in his prime, so while you do technically have a point, you're taking a man out of time approach to make it. Which isn't logical.

he has won 4 in a row and just beat a very dirty fighter in teymur, seems like he deserves another big fight now

I'd have him fight someone ranked between 10-15 at lightweight. So yes Gregor Gillespie would be absolutely perfect.

I was surprised to see he's not even ranked in the top 15. That will probably change when the new rankings come out.

I don't know what they pay him, but he's probably made more from post-fight bonuses than from show money. He's made $700,000 in bonuses (14 bonuses X 50K).

He's had 35 pro fights and has only gone to a decision in 3 of them! Fuuuuuuck! He's right up there with Conor at the top of my Just Bleed Index™. When 90% of your fights involve finishes, you're giving the fans an exciting fight almost every time out.

He's broken his own record for most UFC sub wins twice (now up to 13 subs, just in the UFC, and 18 overall).

But: From 2015 to 2017 he was 2-4 and got finished in all 4 losses. He hasn't fought a ranked opponent since starting his recent 4-fight winning streak.

So, okay, he deserves a ranked opponent now. Hopefully it won't be one of the guys who have no problem letting the judges decide the fight. Let him bang, bro..... er.... let him choke someone the fuck out, bro!

I agree with op,  but I don’t think he is at their level.  I think he gets KOed by the above fighters,  but he has earned his shot at the big time

Lee or Pettis make the most sense. They are in the second half of the top 10 in the UFC rankings and he definitely deserves a top 10 fight. Both Pettis and Lee have recent losses and will be motivated to win to keep their spot. I would not do Gillespie because I think he's a prospect they need to keep building.

I'd love to see him and Ferguson go at it.  He has mental lapses but is the most dangerous guy in the UFC during transitions IMO and can catch anyone in a submission.

It isn't the fight that makes the most sense atm but would be my favourite matchup.

Maybe he doesn't get big fights because everyone confuses him with Barbosa.

Would be great style matchup. Gregor you pressure and smother and oliveira  bjj. Will he be able to snatch a sub, when he is getting blanketed.

Think Gregor decisions him.
