DJ Spazzy Dad -

Schaub said about a year ago that he thinks Sage won’t be around mma at all in a couple of years, that’s looking to be a good prediction. WTF was up with Sage’s dad co-coaching with Uriah in the ufc? Strange deal...

Honestly, it looks like his dad's coaching is one of the things holding Sage back from progressing in the sport.

No clue why they would make this his first fight. Cosmo is a legit killer and sage is not exactly phenom on the ground. Also, let’s face it, he’s not starching dudes on the feet either.

Even worse than Sage not starching dudes on the feet, he has consistently been hurt on the feet.

A lot of people forget that Mickey Gall actually sat him down with a punch.

Here's Sage's amateur MMA debut. Which he lost when his opponent caught his kick and punched him in the face.

TequilaYuen - Why aren't we seeing these leaps with Sage, given all his athleticism?

Maybe he's not as athletic as he looks. The anti-BJ Penn. I'd consider BJ a freak athlete due to his ability to master new martial arts rapidly, despite his unathletic, pudgy appearance. Sage is the opposite.

Not athletic? Are you nuts?

He lacks a lot of fundamentals in the fight game, even more so in grappling, but dude is explosive, fast, super agile, you name it. No need to exaggerate the bashing!

I didn't say "not athletic", I said "not as athletic as he looks".

Don't you think if he were an elite athlete, he would have picked up those fundamentals by now?

I think the reason Sage isn't improving is that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Sure, Sage is still in his early 20s, but he's been training in the same style since elementary school. He's old in terms of how long he has been training.

We've seen it before with guys who start training/fighting when they are extremely young. Joe Stevenson, Karo Parisyan, Sergio Pettis, etc. all started fighting as teenagers and none of them ever showed the kind of rapid improvement that we expected from them based on their age. Much of their growth as fighters appears to have happened when they were still youngsters, and were set in their ways long before they reached their prime. Contrast that with a guy who stared later in life, and has no set patterns, who can be easily molded by good coaching.

Interesting theory, but what about all the wrestlers who started when they were little kids?  Or even other fighters who started in Karate as children, like GSP?

I hope tht Super Sage, got a Super Check for that Super Knock out.  Otherwise that was about as Super Stupid a move I have ever seen.   Thats a Super fast way to Super Pump the breaks, on a less than Super career.

Came to say this. He got dropped by NMickey Gall for fucks sake, he's been getting hit a lot. Wonderboy took longer to figure out, but started getting dropped....to ko'd, Sage is in a similar boat, but started off as not nearly as good of a fighter as Wonderboy.

He needs to get away from pops and Team Alpha Male

HITMAN DAN DIAZ - broken orbital 4 places is what i am hearing.

he has to stay there for surgery cant fly home with it injured because of the sinus damage.

holy shit. hope he recovers ok. all jokes aside, the guy seems like all class. the jump to 185 was super ill-advised.

It's not a jump ONE FC restricts weight cutting through use of hydration tests and other methods. They call 185 welterweight for a reason. Ben Askren was there 185 champion.

I'm aware of their weight cutting policies. He could have easily made 170, even with the hydration tests. Not to mention the weigh-ins are private and there's been speculation OneFC is willing to bend the rules a bit on the weight cut standards. He looked unnaturally ballooned up for MMA and yet he was clearly the smaller fighter.

The weigh ins are only private in the sense that it’s not a show like at the ufc.  You go in, they have an official escort you to get your urine sample, you come back, they do the hydration test, you step on the scale.  The doors are open with athletes/officials coming and going.

You don't know that and Cosmo Alexandre's last MMA fight was at 161 lbs, so none of that mattered.

Came here to eat crow. I'm a moran with bad eyesight who hasn't watched kickboxing since k1 dissolved. Should have kept my mouth shut.

No idea he was fighting Cosmo Alexandre, not smart to try to strike with a fucking legit kickboxing world champ.

Yep, I was just thinking whole lotta people on this thread who don't know Cosmo Alexandre.  REALLY bad matchup

Not just a legit kickboxing world champion, but a legit kickboxing world champion, with years of high-level mma training. Cosmo trained with the Blackzillians, for most of their existance.

Apparently, ONE FC didn't know Cosmo either, unless they wanted to feed one of their relatively big name signings to the wolves right off the bat.
